With a career spanning 15 years, he has managed his practice, Daia Orthodontics & TMJ Orthopedics, in Rochester Hills, Michigan, since 2016, where he has been instrumental in crafting beautiful smiles and alleviating headaches while resolving TMJ pain and dysfunction. He has also been affiliated with Docbraces since 2021, providing orthodontic care for adults, teenagers and children. Dr. Daia’s holistic approach encompasses evaluations of airway, posture, facial aesthetics and overall function, enhancing both appearance and quality of life for his patients.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Daia held various roles that have enriched his expertise. He was an orthodontist at Dental Works, Midwestern Dental Associates and Bright Side Dental between 2015 to 2023. He also gained experience as a teaching assistant, focusing on orthodontics, lasers in dentistry, and TMD and orofacial pain at the school of dental medicine, University of Buffalo, from 2008 to 2014, while working toward his dental degree.
Dr. Daia’s professional journey began after earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Damascus University in Syria in 2005. He then worked as a general dentist in private practice in Damascus, Syria, from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Daia soon after relocated to North America, where he gained experience as an orthodontic research assistant at the University of Alberta in Canada between 2006 and 2008. Subsequently, he pursued further education at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, completing a Master of Science in 2010. He then spent a year as an orthodontic research assistant on campus until 2011 before completing his residency in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics in 2014.
Beyond his formal degrees, Dr. Daia has received several professional certifications, including fellow status in orthodontics from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and diplomate status from the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Daia’s commitment to his profession is reflected in his active membership in numerous industry-related organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the Michigan Dental Association and the American Dental Association. His involvement extends beyond professional circles into civic engagement through roles such as advisory council member for Canadian Orthodontic Partners and executive board member for the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Daia is an accomplished author with publications like “Low Level Laser Therapy for Management of Temporomandibular Disorders” and “Dose Effect Evaluation of Low Level Laser Therapy as an Adjunctive Treatment in Patients with Myofascial Pain.” These works underscore his dedication to advancing knowledge in his field.
Dr. Daia envisions building a medical center where he can focus on expanding access to care while improving oral health through innovative treatments for TMD, facial pain, headaches and TMJ dysfunction.
