From 2014 to 2015, Ms. Safren also excelled as a senior lecturer at Better Motherhood by engaging in classes and support groups, where she contributed her insights on parenting and personal growth. Before establishing Jewel Safren, LCSW, she held the position of clinical social worker at Stanford University from 1991 to 1992. Prior to that appointment, she owned Children’s Academy between 1979 and 1984, providing educational services and support for young learners and their families. Ms. Safren also worked as a clinical social worker at New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center from 1977 to 1979, where she honed her skills in mental health care. Her foundational experience began at the National Institute of Mental Health in 1976 as a clinical social worker.

Ms. Safren’s academic background has played a pivotal role in shaping her success. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in sociology at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, in 1973, followed by a Master of Social Work from NYU in New York City in 1976. These academic achievements provided the theoretical foundation and practical skills necessary for her enduring impact on the field. Additionally, she is a licensed clinical social worker, allowing Ms. Safren to uphold the highest standards of professional practice.

Beyond education, Ms. Safren’s membership in the National Association of Social Workers reflects her commitment to ongoing education and ethical service delivery within the profession. She has also contributed to the broader community through mentorship and thought leadership by serving as a mentor for The Jewish Entrepreneur, supporting aspiring professionals with guidance drawn from her own experiences.

An accomplished author, Ms. Safren has published numerous articles that address topics relevant to mental health and personal development, many of which have been included in The Jewish Link, a publication in the Northeast. Among them are “Love Letter to Tom at the MVC,” “The Root Source of Stress,” and “Feeling all the Feelings.”

In recognition of her success, Ms. Safren has received such accolades as Best of 2024 for Mental Health Services and Best of 2025 for Mental Health Services from BusinessRate. The most significant achievement of her professional journey, however, has been witnessing her clients thrive. Ms. Safren considers it a profound victory when individuals experience relief from depression or anxiety and are able to enjoy life more fully. Her dedication to making the world a better place is central to her practice, and she finds no greater satisfaction than using her talents to help others achieve well-being.

Currently working part time by choice in her early 70s, Ms. Safren feels content with seeing clients only a few hours each week while remaining open to new opportunities on the horizon that may allow for expanded horizons beyond increasing her client load. Her career stands as a testament to the power of empathy, expertise and authentic connection within the healthcare profession.
