Before entering dentistry, Dr. Scordakis began her professional journey as a registered nurse after earning a three-year diploma, with honors, from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1978. This foundational experience provided her with a deep understanding of patient care and compassion, qualities that have remained central throughout her career.
Continuing her studies, Dr. Scordakis earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, cum laude, from Wilkes University in 1982. She then completed her studies in dentistry at Kornberg school of dentistry at Temple University, which equipped her with advanced clinical skills and knowledge essential for success in private practice and academia. Dr. Scordakis’s registered nurse certification further underscores her commitment to healthcare excellence.
Dr. Scordakis holds membership in the Sacramento District Dental Society and the International College of Dentists, reflecting her ongoing engagement with the broader dental community.
Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. Scordakis has demonstrated a strong civic spirit through extensive volunteer work. She has contributed to local health fairs, volunteered with the California Dental Association and participated actively as a leader within her local church community. As a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor for the Sacramento Dental Society and through involvement with Helping Hands, CVA Cares and Kids for the Sacramento Dental Society, Dr. Scordakis has also supported public health initiatives across Sacramento.
Early in her career, Dr. Scordakis was honored as the International College of Dentists’ homecoming queen in 1982. She was also honored to receive the Compassion Award from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. Dr. Scordakis attributes much of her success to disciplined effort, resilience and steadfast support from her parents, particularly her mother’s encouragement to pursue ambitious goals regardless of societal expectations for women at the time. Additionally, she credits her love for people, strong faith, and honesty as defining strengths that have enabled meaningful connections with patients and colleagues alike.
