She currently excels as the founder, owner, and therapist at Beacon of Hope Counseling Services LLC, a role she has held since 2019. In this capacity, she oversees the daily operations of the practice, which includes managing billing, generating reports, handling marketing and advertising, scheduling appointments, and conducting therapy sessions with clients. She is also responsible for addressing concerns from distressed clients or family members, welcoming both providers and clients, and ensuring all progress notes are completed, signed, and securely stored. Additionally, she maintains updated treatment plans, ensures that all required annual paperwork is completed, follows up on denied claims and unpaid invoices to ensure resolution, and organizes and participates in training to maintain licensure and credentials.
Ms. Colburn’s experience also includes serving as a therapist at Southwest Behavioral and Health Services from 2018 to 2019 and as a trauma therapist in private practice from 2017 to 2018. She was also a therapist and trauma therapist at Red Mountain Behavioral Health Services from 2016 to 2017 and at Desert RAIN Behavioral Health Services LLC from 2013 to 2016. Prior to these roles, she worked as a therapist at NDNS4Wellness in 2010 and again from 2012 to 2013, as a therapist at Red Mountain Behavioral Health Services LLC from 2010 to 2012, and as a counselor intern at Catholic Charities from 2007 to 2008. In addition to her professional work, she dedicates her time as a board member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Colburn has been honored as Child Advocacy and Therapy Leader of the Year by the Fortuna Global Excellence Awards in 2024 and recognized in the Best of Mesa Business Hall of Fame by the City of Mesa the same year. She was also named one of the Global Game Changers by Passion Vista Magazine in 2023, received the Outstanding Leadership Award at the Health 2.0 Conference in 2023, was awarded Best of Mesa in Mental Health by the City of Mesa in 2022, and her business earned an A+ Accreditation from the Better Business Bureau in 2020. Laying a solid foundation for her successes, she earned a bachelor’s degree in mental health counseling from Western International University in 2006 and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Argosy University in 2009. She is a member of the International Society of Female Professionals and holds several certifications, including Licensed Professional Counselor from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, National Certified Counselor from the National Board of Certified Counselors, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional from the Arizona Trauma Institute.
Ms. Colburn takes great pride in establishing a successful private practice and prioritizing working for employers whose values align with her own. She attributes her success to her passionate and optimistic approach to therapy. In the coming years, she aims to establish organizations similar to Doctors Without Borders and Nurses Without Borders, with a vision for a global initiative called Counselors Without Borders.
