Deena Gayle Hitzke, EdD, licensed psychotherapist at her own private practice and director of elder services at ARC Administration of Resources and Choices, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in therapy.

With nearly 20 years of experience to her credit, Dr. Hitzke has excelled as director of elder services at the Administration of Resources and Choices since 2018. Simultaneous to said position, she was founder and psychotherapist at Deena Hitzke Counseling, PLLC since 2021. She began her career as a program coordinator at Our Family Services from 2005 to 2007. She worked for the Administration of Resources and Choices from 2007 to 2012 as late-life domestic violence and elder abuse grants coordinator. At Old Pueble Counseling, she established herself as clinical director from 2007 to 2012. 

Dr. Hitzke served as treatment coordinator at Sonora Behavioral Health from 2011 to 2013 before being appointed to the role of director of training and organizational development at the Education and Training Institute from 2013 to 2014. She contributed to the Arizona Department of Child Safety as a child safety specialist II from 2013 to 2014 and at the Creative Communication Learning Advisory Council as research and development director from 2014 to 2015. Concurrent to these postings, she was active as associate director at Cornucopia Global Consulting from 2012 to 2015.

Dr. Hitzke garnered expertise at the Administration of Resources and Choices as program victim services director from 2007 to 2018 and program manager from 2014 to 2019. She has held the role of chief executive officer at Life Review Publishers since 2018. She found additional success as an adventure therapist.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Hitzke pursued an education at Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in women studies in 1993. At Ottawa University, she obtained a master’s degree in human resources development in 1995 and a Master of Arts in professional counseling in 2006. She concluded her studies at Concordia University, graduating as a Doctor of Education in 2019. She holds a certification as a licensed psychotherapist and is a licensed associate counselor in the State of Arizona.

Dr. Hitzke held the role of executive chair at Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission from 2015 to 2018 and was a donor for the Administration of Resources and Choices, CARE International, the YWCA, and the Pima Council on Aging. She was a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, and UnidosUS. In light of her impressive undertakings, Dr. Hitzke has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Cliff Rose Award for Creating Innovative Programs for Marginalized Popualations by the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence.
