Cheri Louise Yarborough, PhD, Retired Psychotherapist at Acacia Clinic, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychology.

Dr. Yarborough had been told she was an “old soul” from a young age, as she was always very observant of people’s behavior and social patterns. Earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Eastern Kentucky University in 1968 and a Master of Science in art therapy from Mount Mary University in 1996, she later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from St. John’s University in Louisiana in 1998. She then went on to complete an internship at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, in which she treated soldiers dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as those recovering from instances of domestic violence and sexual assault. From this experience, Dr. Yarborough was inspired to continue contributing to patients’ healing processes and became certified in trauma counseling and psychotherapy. Notably, she excelled in her career as a psychotherapist with the Acacia Clinic until her retirement in 2006.

Prior to her career in psychology, Dr. Yarborough was a graphic, scenic and lighting director for Educational TV from 1967 to 1975. In 1985, she spearheaded the Lakeside School of Natural Therapeutic, the first school of massage therapy in Wisconsin. In addition, she became a trauma counselor and registered art therapist. Dr. Yarborough currently maintains affiliation with the American Massage Therapy Association, having previously been president of the Wisconsin chapter in 1984 and education director in 1983. Reflecting on her career trajectory, she attributes her success to determination. In her spare time, she enjoys painting and reading tarot cards. Dr. Yarborough is the author of “Inspirations for Crochet” and “Jacobs Road.” She has also been a political cartoonist for the Eureka Springs Independent and has contributed articles to the Carroll County Newspaper and The Citizen.
