With more than a decade of experience in the veterinary field, Dr. Taylor has established himself as a leader in emergency and critical care. Since 2021, he has additionally served as the residency program director of emergency and critical care at MedVet Columbus in Columbus, Ohio. In this capacity, he oversees all activities and requirements for three residents and supervises case management alongside colleagues. He is also the department representative for the critical care department within the Columbus hospital. These roles have allowed Dr. Taylor to shape the next generation of specialists while ensuring high standards of patient care.
Additionally, since 2026, Dr. Taylor has been serving as the critical care specialty team leader at MedVet, where he manages critically ill animals in the intensive care unit before and after surgery as needed. His responsibilities include providing advanced services such as mechanical ventilation, hemoperfusion and apheresis in collaboration with his team. Dr. Taylor also works closely with oncologists to collect mononuclear cells as part of an osteosarcoma treatment protocol and provides therapeutic plasma exchange to treat toxicities and immune-mediated diseases.
Before his work at MedVet, Dr. Taylor completed an emergency and critical care residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2018 to 2021. This intensive training provided him with specialized expertise in managing complex medical cases and contributed significantly to his board certification in emergency and critical care. From 2017 to 2018, Dr. Taylor served as a rotating intern at Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts. This role offered broad exposure to various clinical disciplines and further honed his skills in acute patient management.
Between 2015 and 2017, Dr. Taylor worked as an associate and emergency veterinarian at Animal Clinic Northview Inc. in North Ridgeville, Ohio. During this period, he gained valuable experience handling urgent cases and developed foundational skills that would later support his specialization. Earlier in his professional journey, Dr. Taylor gained experience as a veterinary assistant at Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital in Columbus from 2012 to 2014. During that time, he also demonstrated his passion for sports as the head coach for The Ohio State Women’s Club Hockey team.
Dr. Taylor’s educational background reflects a nontraditional path into veterinary medicine that has enriched his approach as a clinician and mentor. He first earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Williams College in 2007 and a Master of Science in sport management from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2009. Returning to school, Dr. Taylor completed postbaccalaureate premedical coursework that redirected his career focus toward medicine before ultimately earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 2015. He received board certification in emergency and critical care by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
Active in his professional circle, Dr. Taylor is a member of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and the Transfusion Group. These affiliations provide opportunities for ongoing professional development and collaboration within the field.
Dr. Taylor’s career is marked by numerous meaningful achievements that reflect his commitment to lifesaving interventions. Among his most notable cases was guiding a veterinarian by phone through the insertion of a chest tube for a dog struck by an ambulance. This remote intervention enabled the animal to arrive at the hospital alive and stable two hours later. In another instance, Dr. Taylor managed postoperative complications for a dog following herniated disc surgery, overseeing its recovery on a ventilator for three days until it returned to normal activity. These cumulative victories underscored his dedication to impactful patient outcomes.
Throughout his career, Dr. Taylor has drawn lessons from both formal education and practical experience, recognizing that true confidence comes from understanding one’s limitations as well as strengths. He attributes his success to resilience through sleepless nights, reliance on caffeine during demanding periods, and guidance from strong mentors who have supported his growth. Looking ahead, Dr. Taylor aims to expand MedVet’s extracorporeal therapy service and residency program while fostering greater collaboration among critical care doctors across the organization. He remains committed to advancing standards of care within veterinary medicine through innovation and mentorship.
