Melissa Maria Seiler, BSN, Regional Mobile Director of Nursing at CommuniCare Family of Companies and Registered Nurse at Clinical Care Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in Healthcare.

With a distinguished career spanning over 35 years in the healthcare industry, Ms. Seiler has demonstrated a sustained commitment to excellence in nursing leadership and rehabilitation care. Since 2025, she has served as the regional mobile director of nursing for CommuniCare Family of Companies. In this capacity, Ms. Seiler oversees five long-term care facilities in Virginia.

Among numerous responsibilities, Ms. Seiler is tasked with traveling to each location to fill in when a director of nursing is absent due to resignation, illness, surgery or vacation. She also leads and supports the nursing staff in these buildings and provides essential assistance to the regional director of clinical operations. Her work often involves implementing abatement plans, conducting additional audits and facilitating staff education. Ms. Seiler is currently assisting a facility in Charlottesville with unique operational challenges and is mentoring a new director of nursing to ensure adherence to company standards.

Before she began working for CommuniCare Family of Companies, Ms. Seiler became instrumental as a registered nurse with Clinical Care Consulting in 2022, where she continues to make an impact. Headquartered in New Jersey, the company provides clinical oversight and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities throughout the continental United States.

Ms. Seiler’s earlier expertise was reflected in her role as a nursing coordinator at Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers in Midlothian, Virginia, from 2016 to 2017. There, she coordinated care delivery and supported clinical operations within the rehabilitation setting. Between 2015 and 2016, Ms. Seiler was the assistant director of nursing at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab.

Prior to that appointment, Ms. Seiler held several roles that shaped her trajectory in rehabilitation nursing and administration. She began her career at Cedarfield as the assistant director of nursing before advancing to director of nursing for over two years at its continuing care retirement community. In this leadership position, she oversaw long-term care, skilled nursing and assisted living services. Before joining Cedarfield, Ms. Seiler spent approximately six months working in hospice care, following her role as an assistant director of nursing at one of Saber’s facilities for two years.

A significant portion of Ms. Seiler’s professional journey was dedicated to HealthSouth, now Encompass Health Corporation, where she spent nearly a decade holding various titles, such as daytime supervisor and nurse manager. During her tenure at HealthSouth, she made her most notable contribution by developing and teaching a preparatory course for the Certified Rehabilitation Nurse exam. The course achieved a pass rate exceeding 90% and was offered several times annually while Ms. Seiler managed her full-time responsibilities as a nurse manager in Richmond, Virginia. She regards this accomplishment as the pinnacle of her career.

Ms. Seiler’s passion for rehabilitation nursing was inspired by an early mentor who introduced her to physical medicine rehab. This field resonated deeply due to her family’s experiences with recovery and caregiving for grandparents. This influence led her to focus on helping patients regain independence and return home whenever possible. Over nearly two decades in rehabilitation nursing, Ms. Seiler has remained committed to supporting both patients and colleagues through education and leadership.

In preparation for her future in healthcare, Ms. Seiler earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in 2018 after obtaining an associate degree in registered nursing from West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling in 1988. Achieving her bachelor’s degree after three decades in practice broadened her perspective on patient care while reinforcing her belief in the value of both associate- and bachelor-level preparation for nurses. Additionally, Ms. Seiler earned certification as a registered nurse and earned the certified rehabilitation registered nurse credential. These qualifications have underpinned her expertise across various roles focused on rehabilitation care.

Ms. Seiler’s professional affiliations include membership in the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, reflecting her ongoing engagement with advancements in her specialty area. She values continuous learning and actively keeps abreast of changes in healthcare practices by utilizing educational resources provided by her company and conducting independent research on emerging diagnoses or treatments.

Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Ms. Seiler is actively involved with civic organizations and community service initiatives. She volunteers with her local church and serves as a first-aid teacher and health officer for trips organized by the Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, Ms. Seiler has contributed as a volunteer during induction ceremonies for the National Junior Honor Society under the National Association of Secondary School Principals and participated in Silver Sneakers programs at HealthSouth.

Throughout her career, Ms. Seiler has learned the importance of flexibility, particularly during periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic when guidelines evolved rapidly, and she recognizes the necessity of staying informed about industry developments. Her achievements have been recognized through several honors, such as being named Employee of the Quarter by the School of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996 and receiving the Pulling the Wagon Award from HealthSouth in 2001.

Ms. Seiler attributes much of her success to the encouragement provided by her parents. Her father’s example as a fire chief instilled principles of hands-on leadership, while her mother’s insistence on higher education motivated her to pursue advanced credentials in nursing. The steadfast support from her husband has also played an essential role throughout her professional journey.

Looking ahead, Ms. Seiler aims to advance within CommuniCare Family of Companies by transitioning into a regional director of clinical operations role as part of the organization’s ongoing growth strategy. She remains eager to develop new skills related not only to resident care but also to business operations within long-term healthcare management, aspiring ultimately toward executive leadership positions such as regional vice president. Ms. Seiler continues to exemplify dedication to patient-centered care while fostering professional development among colleagues across every stage of her distinguished career.
