Since 2015, Mr. Paulos has served as the president and owner of Elegant Leadership Inc., where he continues to advance innovative approaches in mental health care and leadership development. Through this platform, he has dedicated himself to integrating trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices into clinical programs for transitional-age youth. Mr. Paulos’s leadership at Elegant Leadership Inc. is deeply anchored in his belief that his work is a calling. This ethos shapes his daily practice and underpins his most notable achievements.
Among other influential roles, Mr. Paulos held the position of clinical supervisor at St. Anthony Foundation from 2024 to 2025. In this capacity, he provided oversight and guidance to interdisciplinary teams serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness within city and county services. A nonprofit organization headquartered in San Francisco, California, St. Anthony’s provides medical care, addiction recovery treatment, workforce development, jobs, meals, clothing and access to technology to those experiencing homelessness and low-income individuals.
Between 2021 and 2024, Mr. Paulos worked as a clinician II for Alameda County, where he contributed to the development and implementation of behavioral health programs for diverse populations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he collaborated with Telecare Corporation, Alameda County Behavioral Health and the County Sheriff’s Office to initiate the first overnight mental health services at Santa Rita County Jail, the third largest county jail in California and fifth largest in the U.S.
From 2020 to 2021, Mr. Paulos served as a forensic clinician at Telecare Corporation. He was instrumental in providing behavioral health services within correctional settings and played a key leadership role during the rollout of California’s SB823 legislation following the closure of the State of California’s Youth Authority Prison in June 2023. Notably, Mr. Paulos designed, submitted and delivered Alameda County’s Forensic Behavioral Health Plan for treatment within the first transitional age youth felony-level unit at Alameda County’s Juvenile Justice Center.
Mr. Paulos’s earlier experience included roles such as behavioral health specialist II and clinician I with Behavioral Health and Recovery Services in Stanislaus County from 2016 to 2017. He also excelled at Bonita House Inc. between 2013 and 2020, where he served as a dual diagnosis counselor, case manager, family liaison, manager, assistant director and director for the Berkeley, California, nonprofit. Mr. Paulos also worked for organizations like Sierra Educational and Counseling Services, the Human Outreach Agency, the Seventh Step Foundation, Terra Firma Diversion and Integrated Counseling and Consulting Services, dating back to 2003. Throughout these roles, Mr. Paulos developed curricula for non-violence education programs targeting urban middle and high school students, facilitated group sessions for thousands of individuals, including an estimated 40,000 people during his decade-long tenure with Terra Firma Educational & Diversion Services, and provided critical support for individuals navigating complex behavioral health challenges.
Mr. Paulos holds a Bachelor of Arts in human development and psychology in 2012 with a minor in women’s studies and a Master of Social Work in 2015 from California State University, East Bay. He is also recognized as a certified advanced-level wellness recovery action planning facilitator through Copeland Center since 2013 and holds certification in preventing workplace harassment from Nonprofits Insurance Alliance since 2017.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Paulos has demonstrated civic engagement. Most notably, he served as the president of the board of directors for Peers Envisioning and Engaging in Recovery Services from 2018 to 2021, where he promoted recovery-oriented services within peer-led mental health communities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Paulos has worked with individuals and staff at all levels of care. He has also worked with and supervised interdisciplinary teams, including Stanislaus County’s Crisis Emergency Response Team, the Integrated Forensics Team and the Co-Occurring Disorders Full-Service Partnership Project Team, as well as the San Francisco City and County’s Jail Behavioral Health Services Team and Alameda County’s Health and Human Services Agency, among others.
Among his recognitions, Mr. Paulos was featured on the cover of his community college’s bulletin, a testament to his visibility within the field. He attributes his success to a blend of humility, strategic insight balanced with action, personal reflection and an unwavering belief that his work is a divine calling rooted in faith. Mr. Paulos is known for his sense of levity, warmth and humor balanced with accountability, qualities that make him approachable while maintaining high standards for himself and those around him.
