Dr. Luces has established a remarkable career in nursing education and clinical practice, currently serving as a clinical faculty at Montefiore Health System and Montefiore Einstein for the past three years. In this capacity, he provides onboarding for all new nursing staff, conducts specialty classes in emergency medicine and pediatrics, develops curricula for nursing education programs and implements corrective action plans approved by senior leadership. In addition to his role as an educator, Dr. Luces has been a registered nurse in intensive care and the emergency room at Montefiore Health System since 2018. He has cared for critically ill patients, including cardiac, lung and heart transplant recipients, and has managed post-operative surgical cases. In the emergency room setting, Dr. Luces has treated patients of all ages, from pediatrics to adults, collaborating with providers to admit or discharge as appropriate at a tertiary stroke and heart center that regularly handles complex, high-acuity cases.
In academia, Dr. Luces has served as a nursing educator and clinical instructor on campus. He has also been an adjunct assistant professor at Eugenio María de Hostos Community College, The City University of New York, since 2021. He also joined Mercy College, now Mercy University, as a visiting professor in 2023, before being offered a full-time faculty position, becoming the program director, and serving on both the undergraduate curriculum committee and the academic affairs committee. Additionally, Dr. Luces has been the lead instructor for basic life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiovascular life support courses through CPR and You LLC since 2020.
While working at Montefiore, Dr. Luces also served as an emergency room nurse at SBH Health System from 2020 to 2021. He also spent 2020 and 2021 as an intensive care nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital and 2021 as a nursing manager and magnet co-chair of ambulatory services at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he contributed to quality improvement initiatives in ambulatory care settings.
Among numerous other positions, Dr. Luces excelled as a registered nurse at PM Pediatric Care, a director of clinical services for multi-specialty ambulatory clinic sites, and a clinical nurse manager at Scarsdale Medical Group. His career in the health care industry dates back to 2009, when he worked as a nursing attendant at Montefiore Health System for a year before advancing to progressively more senior roles.
Dr. Luces’s academic credentials are extensive. He acquired an Associate of Applied Science from Med-life Institute School of Nursing in 2018, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Aspen University in 2019, a Master of Science in health care administration management from US University in 2021, a Doctor of Healthcare Administration from Virginia University of Lynchburg in 2024, and a postgraduate degree in adult health nurse with a focus on nursing from Walden University LLC in 2025. He also holds numerous professional credentials in nursing, making him highly qualified across various areas of the field.
Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Luces is civically engaged as a volunteer with MMCC Food Pantry, where he supports community food security efforts. He also serves on the faculty of the American Heart Association Inc., contributing expertise toward lifesaving training initiatives nationwide.
Dr. Luces credits his mentors and his patients as the primary motivators throughout his career. Observing patient needs firsthand inspired him to address gaps in hospital care systems, while the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted deficiencies in hands-on nursing education, which led him into teaching roles. Dr. Luces’s drive to become a nurse practitioner stemmed from recognizing the barriers many individuals face in accessing health care services.
Looking ahead, Dr. Luces envisions opening a clinic dedicated to providing accessible health care regardless of ability to pay, working collaboratively with community leaders, donors or organizations committed to improving public health outcomes.
