Liz C. Among a myriad of responsibilities, Dr. Ani actively engaged in research, reflecting on tools and innovations, collaborating with a partner to produce adaptive tools, and exploring various methods for working with children. She has also been instrumental in clinical operations, mentoring junior therapists and implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to diverse populations. Through her work in the school, Dr. Ani has been instrumental in developing innovative strategies, such as therapeutic optimism, which is an approach centered on fostering self-awareness to help children manage challenges.

Dr. Ani draws tremendous fulfillment in making a meaningful impact on both children and adults, and her leadership has fostered a very collaborative environment that prioritizes individualized care and professional development. Her hands-on, connection-focused techniques, specifically within the school system, have promoted engagement and learning tailored to diverse needs.

Before her present positions, Dr. Ani contributed her expertise as an occupational therapist at Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96 in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, in 2016. As such, she provided direct therapy services and collaborated with educators to support students’ academic and social success. From 2014 to 2017, Dr. Ani worked within the Elgin U-46 School District in South Elgin and Streamwood, Illinois. Her professional journey began in 2013 at Keshet in Skokie, Illinois, where she delivered specialized interventions for children with complex intellectual and developmental challenges.

Dr. Ani’s academic background began with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Nigeria State University in 2000. She later earned a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Governors State University in 2011, where she was recognized with the Disadvantaged Student Award for her perseverance and academic excellence. Subsequently, she completed a Doctor of Philosophy in educational leadership from National University in San Diego in 2024. Dr. Ani holds board certification as an occupational therapist through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Inc.

Active in her professional community, Dr. Ani is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Inc. Beyond her professional endeavors, she is dedicated to civic engagement through membership in leading occupational therapy associations and ongoing research projects aimed at improving educational outcomes for disadvantaged students.

Dr. Ani attributes her success to determination and a strong desire to honor her mother’s legacy. Inspired by her mother’s experiences overcoming dyslexia and learning disabilities without access to formal education, Dr. Ani remains motivated to excel and break generational barriers through academic achievement and professional service.

Looking ahead, Dr. Ani plans to continue publishing research focused on challenges faced by students within the education system and sharing her findings through professional associations. Her goal is to secure a professorship that will allow her to further contribute through research dissemination and mentorship within higher education.
