Ms. Veenendall, an esteemed health care professional, has been affiliated with Western Wisconsin Health in Baldwin, Wisconsin, since 2016 as the manager and founder of the diabetes self-management education and support program. Working alongside an endocrinologist, she assists patients with sensor insertion and education related to diabetes. Leveraging decades of former experience, Ms. Veenendall began her career in 1975 as a registered nurse and discharge planner for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation (now Western Wisconsin Health. Over the years, she served in various other positions, including floor nurse, charge nurse, obstetrics delivery nurse, discharge planning nurse, and, more recently, as the manager of the diabetes self-management education and support program from 1995 to 2016.
In preparation for her career in health care, Ms. Veenendall received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 1975. She became a registered nurse, certified diabetes care and education specialist, and certified diabetes educator, further enhancing her expertise in the field. Besides her educational accomplishments, Ms. Veenendall is a member of several industry-related organizations in various roles, including the American Diabetes Association, the West Central Wisconsin American Association of Diabetes Educators (now Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists.
Outside of her primary career goals, Ms. Veenendall is active with various local initiatives, frequently educating individuals about diabetes and fundraising for bus charters for patients to attend expos she created. She has also been known for volunteering at The Free Clinic of Pierce & St. Croix Counties in River Falls, Wisconsin, which caters to many Hispanic patients. Now working on a part-time basis after over 45 years in the field, Ms. Veenendall reflects on her career and is grateful for her family’s support and the passion she has for her local community and the hospital for which she is affiliated.
