Elizabeth Roulette Baseler, MS, retired clinical services director at Leidos Biomedical Research Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical research and development.
With over four and a half decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Baseler has established a successful career in healthcare, specializing in clinical trial management for cancer and infectious diseases. She currently excels as a senior clinical project manager at Manpower, a role she has held since 2023. Previously, she enjoyed a notable tenure with Leidos Biomedical Research Inc. from 1978 to 2022, culminating in her position as directorate head of clinical monitoring for the research program directorate at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. In these roles, her responsibilities have included establishing clinical infrastructure and overseeing the regulatory compliance of clinical protocols conducted by the National Institutes of Health, both in the United States and globally. Throughout her career, she has traveled to over 29 countries to set up clinical trials.
Additionally, Ms. Baseler holds memberships with the Society of Clinical Research Associates, the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, Project Management Professionals, and the Association of Public Health Laboratories. She also dedicates her time as a volunteer mentor at Woman to Woman Mentoring and contributes to Blessings in a Backpack and the Ocean City Reef Foundation. In light of her impressive achievements in the field, she has been honored with the Director’s Award by the National Institutes of Health and various other awards from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Laying a solid foundation for these successes, she pursued an education at McDaniel College, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1978, followed by a Master of Science in Administration and Management from Hood College in 1984.
Reflecting on her path, Ms. Baseler takes great pride in her journey, as she began as a primary laboratory technician and evolved into her role as an executive director overseeing a program with more than 300 people. One of the most notable experiences in her career was working on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa from 2014 to 2016, where she was on the ground, setting up clinical trials and collaborating with the Ministries of Health in those countries to find ways to prevent the spread of Ebola and discover effective treatments, which they eventually did. She attributes her success to the support of her family, outstanding mentors, and her passion for biology, clinical research, and science. In the coming years, she aims to continue working, mentoring, and engaging in women’s leadership groups. She also aspires to write about her experiences and the lessons she learned from her travels and share them with the people she traveled with. In advising aspiring professionals, she emphasizes the importance of reaching out to people and building a strong network across different fields. She also advises not to shy away from asking for advice and stresses the value of learning to speak effectively in public.
