Diane K. Reist, BSPharm, PharmD, RPh, Transitional Care Pharmacy Specialist at University of Iowa Healthcare, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pharmacy and transitional care.
With decades of experience to her credit, Dr. Reist has excelled as a clinical pharmacy specialist in transitions of care and a faculty member for the Upstream Initiative with the University of Iowa Health Care since 2013. In this position, she ensures that patients receive affordable prescribed medicine, reviews social determinants of health, and helps a diverse range of patients by motivating them toward better health outcomes and transitioning from inpatient care to the next step of their recovery. Prior to this role, she was active as the long-term care pharmacy manager and a long-term care consultant pharmacist with Main Healthcare Pharmacy from 2009 to 2013. Dr. Reist began her career at Mercy Medical Center between 1980 and 2008, serving as a pharmacy intern, a staff pharmacist, a long-term care consultant, the assistant director of pharmacy services, a clinical coordinator, and the director of pharmacy services during this tenure.
To support her professional ambitions, Dr. Reist pursued an education at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1981. She concluded her studies at the University of Florida in 2007, graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy. In addition to these accomplishments, she obtained her registration as a pharmacist, further cementing her impressive credentials in her field. Involved with myriad organizations in her field, Dr. Reist has contributed her wealth of knowledge to the next generation of pharmacists through her affiliation with the Iowa State Pharmacy Association, for which she had proudly been elected as president.
Attributing her success to her compassionate treatment of both patients and colleagues as well as the unwavering support of her family, Dr. Reist has accrued several accolades throughout her career. Notably, she has been presented with The Ben Pardini Interdisciplinary Teaching Award from the University of Iowa, the Pharmacist Achievement Award from Merck in 1997, the Improving Our Workplace Award in 2014, the Pharmacy Preceptor Award from the University of Iowa in 2020 and 2021, and a Healthcare Educator Award for five consecutive years. The recipient of the Emmi® Grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, she was likewise recognized as the Hospital Pharmacist of the Year, the 2008 Health System Pharmacist of the Year, and in inductee in Who’s Who in High School. Looking toward the future, Dr. Reist hopes to help as many patients as possible in improving their health and develop new perspectives on earth before she shifts her focus toward a well-deserved retirement.
