Vernicia A. Edmond, MSN, FNP-BC, CHHP, Founder at MariCare Wellness, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in holistic and occupational health.
A first-generation American citizen hailing from a Haitian family, Ms. Edmond was driven by a desire to pursue a career in medicine at a young age, initially aspiring to become an obstetrician-gynecologist. Instilled with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence, she served as an aerospace medical service journeyman with the District of Columbia (D.C.) Air National Guard between 2001 and 2008, a tenure that molded her approach to patient care. She likewise pursued an education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University during this time, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2008. Ms. Edmond continued her career at the Children’s National Medical Center as a cardiac intensive care unit nurse from 2008 to 2014.
Over the course of her work at the Children’s National Medical Center, Ms. Edmond was additionally active as a registered nurse with Fastaff Travel Nursing in 2013, Federal Occupational Health from 2010 to 2013, and Kaiser Permanente from 2012 to 2014. Soon thereafter, she was appointed as a registered nurse with Nurses Etc Staffing between 2014 and 2016 and a registered nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center between 2014 and 2017. She concluded her academic efforts during this period, graduating with a Master of Science with a concentration as a family nurse practitioner at Drexel University in 2016. Moreover, Ms. Edmond contributed as a nurse practitioner with Metro Spine Pain Cents LLC from 2017 to 2018.
Since 2011, Ms. Edmond has found success as a flight nurse and the officer-in-charge of health and wellness with the U.S. Air Force Reserve. She has also excelled as the co-founder of MariCare Wellness, a holistic healthcare practice in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, since 2018. In the latter position, she collaborates alongside her sister, Melinda Toussaint, and their close friend, Kiara Walters, to provide their diverse clientele with alternative treatments for chronic illnesses that prioritize the wellness of each patient’s physical, mental, spiritual and emotional being. To support her professional ambitions, Ms. Edmond has obtained a number of impressive certifications, including in forensic trends and issues in contemporary healthcare and as both a board-certified family nurse practitioner and a holistic health practitioner.
A noted graduate of the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program, Ms. Edmond has also received multiple accolades as a testament to her stellar military service. Previously honored as the Airman of the Year by the D.C. Air National Guard, she was further recognized as the Flight Nurse of the Quarter in 2015 and the Field Grade Officer of the Year in 2023. Likewise, she was nominated as the Field Grade Officer of the Year by the 459th Air Refueling Wing in 2023. Ms. Edmond has also been inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Beyond her primary endeavors, Ms. Edmond is actively involved in community service, particularly with organizations like the Salvation Army and the Wounded Warrior Project. Furthermore, she volunteers her time to support veterans and the homeless population in the D.C. area, reflecting her commitment to making a positive impact outside of her practice. Ms. Edmond has additionally maintained her affiliation with the Nurse Practitioner Association of the District of Columbia and the American Nurses Association.
Ms. Edmond has attributed her success to her unwavering faith in God, the support of her family and friends, and her daughter Maya’s admiration, for whom she strives to set an example of achievement and compassion in both her personal and professional life. She has been further motivated to shift her attention toward natural health treatments by her friend’s battle with a rare type of skin cancer, as herbal medicine and medical cannabis significantly improved her quality of life. Proud of her advocacy work as well, Ms. Edmond hopes to continue expanding upon and enhancing the services offered by MariCare Wellness while evolving into the best version of herself within her field by garnering additional certifications and establishing her global brand.
