Larry D. Fannin, PharmD, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Roseman University of Health Sciences, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in Pharmacy Education.
Dr. Fannin’s illustrious career in the pharmacy industry spans four decades. Since 2015, he has served as the dean of the college of pharmacy at the Roseman University of Health Sciences. In this role, he oversees operations across both the Henderson, Nevada, and South Jordan, Utah, campuses. Dr. Fannin’s responsibilities include supervising faculty and staff members, managing budgets and leading executive hiring. Dr. Fannin is also dedicated to teaching students the essential skills required to become practicing pharmacists in the health care industry.
First joining the Roseman University of Health Sciences in 2005, Dr. Fannin taught the very first class within the newly formed department in 2006, which included just over 45 students. Today, the institution enrolls 115 students annually thanks to his hard work and dedication, as well as the efforts of numerous faculty members. Dr. Fannin has since developed an interprofessional education curriculum in collaboration with the nursing and dental medicine programs.
In addition to his administrative role at Roseman University of Health Sciences, Dr. Fannin served as the associate dean for academic and student affairs at the school of pharmacy at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. He also excelled in the role of division director of the clinical pharmacy program at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee.
Dr. Fannin’s earlier career in the field included serving as the director of pharmacy services at Holy Family Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He began his professional journey as a hospital staff pharmacist and later as a staff pharmacist at a local VA hospital before becoming a clinical pharmacist at a hospital in Tallahassee.
Dr. Fannin’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from the college of pharmacy at Mercer University in Atlanta in 1975 after completing a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy on campus. Dr. Fannin’s academic accomplishments have been instrumental in his success as an educator and leader in pharmacy.
In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Fannin is actively involved with several industry-related organizations, including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is also a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., the Rho Chi Society and other esteemed associations. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Fannin is civically engaged as a volunteer at a local homeless shelter in Salt Lake City.
Throughout his career, Dr. Fannin has been recognized for his contributions to the field. Notably, he was featured as one of Utah Business Magazine’s Healthcare Heroes in 2014 for his community contributions as a health care educator. Dr. Fannin’s story was featured on the cover of the magazine. This accolade highlighted his dedication to advancing health care through education and management.
Looking ahead, Dr. Fannin envisions retiring from academia while possibly engaging in consulting work or taking time to relax. He attributes much of his success to the support from colleagues and institutions he has worked with throughout his career journey.
