Additionally, Dr. Cohen served as an adjunct at Silver Hill Hospital, a nonprofit psychiatric hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, broadening his experience and knowledge in clinical settings.
Dr. Cohen’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1988, followed by a Master of Education in psychology from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1989. He then pursued a Master of Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, completing these degrees in 1993 and 1998, respectively. Dr. Cohen’s postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1999 solidified his foundation in neuropsychology. These academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping his career, providing him with the skills necessary to excel in his field.
In addition to his educational background, Dr. Cohen holds credentials as a board-certified rehabilitation psychologist and a board-certified school neuropsychologist. These credentials underscore his proficiency and dedication to his profession, recognizing him for his commitment to this particular area of medicine.
Dr. Cohen is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Board of Professional Psychology and the Society for Personality Assessment, and is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. These affiliations reflect his commitment to staying abreast of developments within his field and contributing to the broader psychological community. It also allows him to network with like-minded individuals.
In 2020, Dr. Cohen authored “Neurofeedback 101: Rewiring the Brain for ADHD, Anxiety, Depression and Beyond (Without Medication),” a publication that highlights alternative approaches to mental health treatment without relying on medication. This work exemplifies his innovative approach to addressing complex psychological issues.
Dr. Cohen attributes much of his success to the mentorship he received throughout his career, which has been pivotal in shaping his current status as a respected expert in his field. His dedication to providing services to children with neurodevelopmental disorders and adults with head injuries has also been very rewarding. He has particularly enjoyed the opportunity to help the individuals he works with. Spending seven to nine hours with each patient allows him to learn something new every time he works with them. Dr. Cohen genuinely enjoys serving both groups and looks forward to future success in his field.
