With more than 25 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Peterson began his career at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1998, working initially as a billing and reimbursement specialist. Over the course of 12 years, he advanced within the company while refining his skills as a business applications coordinator, a reimbursement coordinator, an information technology (IT) builder for the EPIC hospital billing system, and a principal trainer. Garnering valuable expertise in IT solutions, Mr. Peterson notably implemented and optimized the EPIC system and eventually obtained his certification in EPIC Hospital Billing Administration.
In 2011, Mr. Peterson accepted a position with Hackensack Meridian Health as an Epic senior applications consultant. Over two years, he continued to hone his skills in EPIC system implementation before transitioning to a similar position as an Epic senior applications analyst for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago between 2013 and 2021. His work at the aforementioned children’s hospital was particularly rewarding due to his involvement in patient care for children, a cause that remains close to his heart.
In 2023, Mr. Peterson briefly held positions as a senior health care information technology consultant at RWJBarnabas Health and a senior information technology consultant at the University of Illinois Chicago. Since 2023, he has found much success as a senior analyst of access and revenue systems for the University of Illinois Chicago. In this capacity, Mr. Peterson oversees EPIC hospital billing and claims analysts to ensure efficient processes and supports quarterly upgrades to enhance system functionality. He is also responsible for mentoring new hires and guiding colleagues on the best practices in their respective roles.
Before embarking upon his professional path, Mr. Peterson pursued a formal education that has provided a strong foundation for his analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. He notably enrolled at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan, from which he graduated with an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences in 1993. Mr. Peterson subsequently completed coursework in public history and library sciences at Western Michigan University.
Throughout his career, Mr. Peterson has achieved notable milestones such as obtaining three EPIC certifications, which demonstrate his stellar level of expertise in handling hospital billing and IT systems. Completing extensive levels of training and passing difficult exams, these certifications have enhanced his credibility within his field and enabled him to seize exciting opportunities throughout his career. He has attributed much of his success to working in supportive environments that have allowed him to grow professionally and further his education.
Born in Marshall, Michigan, Mr. Peterson remains committed to excellence in his field while maintaining a focus on patient care and system efficiency.
