Gretchen Yvette Grier, director of foster and kinship care at Indiana Department of Child Services, State of Indiana, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in social services and child welfare.

With 30 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Grier has excelled as director of foster care and kinship care at the Indiana Department of Child Services since 2019. She began her career at the State of Indiana as a family case manager from 1993 to 2006 and as a foster parent support and communication liaison in 2019. Additionally, she created a literacy program to encourage reading habits and provide culturally responsive literature to Black and brown children within the Indiana child welfare system.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Grier pursued an education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and child development in 1995. She holds a diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace certificate from the Corporate Training and Professional Education Program at the University of South Florida in 2022. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, she has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She served as a board member at Trusted Mentors and Raising Queens, taught etiquette classes for young women, and hosted a Black History Month event.

In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Grier remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She held executive and leadership roles with the National Association of State Foster Care Managers and the Light of the World Christian Church Chapter of Toastmasters. She was a member of the Central Indiana Association of Black Social Workers. In the immediate future, she intends to retire from the state government while continuing to work with children and families.
