Tanya Evans, assistant director of field education and adjunct faculty instructor at Lois V. and Samuel J. She began her career as a residential habilitation specialist at AHRC and a Medicaid service coordinator from 2002 to 2003. She served as program coordinator at The Chimes, Inc. from 2004 to 2005. As a service coordinator, she contributed to Service Coordination, Inc. from 2005 to 2008 and Community Options, Inc. in 2008. She garnered a stellar reputation as a career coach at Henkels and McCoy, Inc., part of H&M Shared Services, Inc., from 2008 to 2010.

Ms. Evans continued her career at Abbott House as a Medicaid service coordinator from 2010 to 2011 and quality assurance coordinator from 2012 to 2012. She was active as a social worker at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from 2013 to 2019 before transitioning to the role of anti-bias and trauma-informed care trainer at the CUNY School of Professional Studies in 2020. At Bailey’s Café, she found success as a social worker and creative writing facilitator in 2020. She held the role of social-emotional specialist at Watoto Free School Collective from 2020 to 2021. She was recruited as a Licensed Master of Social Work at Achieve Beyond Pediatric Therapy & Autism Services from 2019 to 2022.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Evans pursued an education at Guilford College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and women’s studies in 2000. She concluded her studies at the Lois V. and Samuel J. Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, graduating with a Master of Social Work in 2014. Beyond her responsibilities within the field, she has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She contributed as a support group facilitator at This House Has a Door and a social work liaison and team liaison at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She participated with Survivors Out Loud, the Pasadena International House of Prayer, and the National Council on Domestic Violence.

In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Evans remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and Connect NYC. She also served on the advisory board of Bailey’s Café and was a member of the professionalism and diversity committees of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Evans has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Catch a Star Award from the social work department at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2016. In the immediate future, she intends to become a homeowner, focus on ministry, and provide wellness retreats in the Caribbean for people who cannot afford it.
