With a passion for helping others rooted in his own journey of recovery, Mr. Vandersteen embarked on a career dedicated to addiction counseling. He worked twelve years for nonprofit organizations offering residential and intensive outpatient services. In 2023, Mr. Vandersteen elected to open a private practice named Vandersteen Therapeutic Services. His private practice serves clients with mental health and/or substance use disorders. He feels strongly about providing comprehensive support to individuals seeking recovery. Additionally, his private practice offers services to clients who do not have substance use disorders, but struggle with mental health concerns, such as trauma, bipolar disorder, interpersonal relationship challenges, codependency, depression/anxiety, to name a few. Before this role, he held positions at Palouse River Counseling, CRC Health Group, and Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, among others, where he honed his expertise in addiction treatment and mental health counseling.
Mr. Vandersteen’s professional trajectory is deeply intertwined with his personal experiences, including his journey to recovery and his role as a parent to two children with severe autism. These experiences have profoundly shaped his approach to counseling, imbuing him with empathy, patience, and resilience. In addition to his clinical work, he is committed to continuous growth and development in his field. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington. In Idaho, he is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). He holds certification in EMDR and DBT. Looking ahead, Mr. Vandersteen envisions expanding his practice and establishing a brick-and-mortar location.
