With almost three decades of experience, Dr. Cox has been thriving as a VISN CEAT psychologist with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs since 2020. Before that position, she worked with VHA as a CLC psychologist from 2018 to 2020 and as a licensed psychologist from 2009 to 2020. During that time, she held the positions of chief of the education and training section of human resources at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 2015 to 2018, program manager of the Residential and Acute Inpatient Psychiatry Programs for the Transitional Care, Compensated Work Therapy, and Behavioral Health Assessment Team from 2013 to 2015 and clinical coordinator of the Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program at VAGCVHCS from 2009 to 2013.
Before entering her professional career, Dr. Cox received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1983. She then attended the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a Master’s Degree in counseling psychology in 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling psychology in 1996. Upon completing her education, Dr. Cox became a Certified Threat Manager through the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. She is one of only eleven people in the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs that is a Certified Threat Manager. As a testament to her success, Dr. Cox has authored and co-authored numerous articles, including but not limited to “Postmodern Conceptions of Self” in the Journal of Constructivist Psychology in 1997 and “Dream of Hattiesburg: Needs Assessment and Outcome Evaluation” in 1995.
