With years of experience to her credit, Ms. Curtis has excelled as founder and director of doula services with BirthWise Doula Services LLC since 2020. Having formerly garnered experience in business administration, she had previously worked in the field of training and education with a number of technology-oriented start-up companies. Moreover, Ms. Curtis also served as a maternal health peer educator with the Black Child & Family Institute.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Curtis pursued an education at Sullivan University, from which she earned an Associate of Science in business, management, marketing and related support services in 2006. She concluded her studies at Sullivan University in 2010, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in business administration, management and operations. In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Curtis has obtained myriad certifications in her industry from the likes of Spinning Babies, the Healthy Children Project, Central Piedmont Community College, DONA International and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, to name a few.
Beyond her primary responsibilities, Ms. Curtis has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. Since 2021, she has been active as the chairperson for the impact program at DONA International. She was likewise appointed as the chairperson for Black Mother, Black Baby, a subsection of DONA International. Ms. Curtis has also contributed to the next generation of professionals in her areas of expertise as a mentor.
Ms. Curtis attributes her success to her knowledgeable and genuine nature, her commitment to her practice, her desire to help others and her compassion. Hailing from a family of public servants, she has been driven by a number of personal tragedies as well as the harsh realities of teenagers being unequipped to deal with hardships and postpartum mood disorders following their pregnancies. Among the highlights of her career, she is incredibly proud to witness the improvement of her clients’ maternal health under her guidance. Looking toward the future, Ms. Curtis hopes to continue training highly-educated doulas as to ensure that anyone in need of their support and care will receive it accordingly.
