Gary James Girard, Health Director at Lac Courte Oreilles Community Health Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare administration.
With more than 20 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Girard has found success as the health director for Lac Court Oreilles (LCO) Community Health Center since 2019. Prior to this position, he served with the LCO Community Health Center as the behavioral health director and the head start director. He previously excelled as a home school coordinator within the LCO community between 2000 and 2012, a role in which he focused on supporting the educational, social development and welfare of Native American children by working with local schools, tribal entities and the Indian Child Welfare Act. Dr. Girard was drawn to his present post after tragically losing his legs and the use of his body from the waist down due to transverse myelitis in 2001, which restricted his growth as a home school liaison and motivated him toward refining his skills in counseling and administrative responsibilities.
To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Girard initially pursued an education at Concordia University, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and communication in 1999. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Wisconsin, obtaining a master’s degree in guidance counseling with Letters of Excellence in 2006. He concluded his studies at Argosy University in 2015, graduating with a Doctor of Education. A member of both the LCO Credit Union and the Hayward Community School Board, he is incredibly proud to aid his community with their education, health and welfare. In the coming years, Dr. Girard hopes to establish and maintain a new clinic at the LCO Community Health Center.
