Hailing from three generations of medical professionals, Ms. Benson knew she also wanted to work in the medical field since her youth. In 1968, she earned an associate degree from Brandywine Junior College, now known as Weidner College, and subsequently became a certified nuclear medicine technologist and registered diagnostic medical sonographer, as well as certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. She went on to commence her career at a medical center in Wilmington, Delaware.
Today, Ms. Benson excels as a certified nuclear medicine technologist and registered diagnostic medical sonographer at Coastal Cardiology and Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, California. In her role, she specializes in equipment testing on nuclear cameras and dose calibrators, as well as deals with patient assistance and testing including cardiac imaging, infusion and proper dosing of radioactive materials, treadmill and stress test, 12-lead EKG and printing EKG result for interpretation. To remain aware of developments in her field, she holds membership with the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Alongside her primary work, Ms. Benson served as president of the West Tennessee Organization of Nuclear Medicine Technologists in 1979 and was a member of the clinical board of the American Cancer Society. She considers her work in colon and rectal cancer and monoclonal antibody imaging at Twin Cities Community Hospital as a particular highlight of her career, as she was able to explore the field of nuclear medicine and further develop her skills and knowledge as a professional. While there, she was honored with an Employee of the Year Award., attributing her success to her passion and desire to help others. In five years’ time, Ms. Benson aims to commence her retirement but plans to spend her time volunteering at a homeless shelter.
