Ms. Bittar maintains a team primarily composed of direct employees under her supervision, with a small number of contractors supporting operations.
For many years, Ms. Bittar independently oversaw hiring, client visits, direct care provision, and payroll management while collaborating with a bookkeeper and certified public accountant for financial operations. Her husband, George, initially focused on direct caregiving for male clients before transitioning to an administrative role in 2020. The addition of her daughter-in-law to the office in 2023 further solidified the company’s status as a family-run organization.
Before establishing G & J In Home Care LLC, Ms. Bittar and her husband operated Forever Care Homes from 1997 to 2009. This venture laid the foundation for their transition into in-home care by providing adult foster care services and shaping their philosophy of personalized support.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Bittar worked as a private caregiver between 1991 and 1997 following her initial work as a nurse assistant from 1989 to 1991. Each role contributed to her comprehensive understanding of client needs and informed the heart-led approach that distinguishes her work today.
Following high school, Ms. Bittar obtained a bachelor’s degree. Her academic background has played a crucial role in equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective leadership and client advocacy within the healthcare sector.
Throughout nearly four decades of service, Ms. Bittar has prioritized empathy over profit, maintaining transparent financial practices that enable access to care for families regardless of their economic circumstances. While many competitors set higher minimum rates for services in Portland, she deliberately keeps her base rate lower and adjusts fees when families face hardship. This philosophy is rooted in Ms. Bittar’s belief that caregiving encompasses both physical assistance and emotional support, building trust-based relationships that foster stability for clients from all backgrounds.
Ms. Bittar attributes her achievements to humility, honesty and a perfectionist drive instilled by her mother. She also notes her ongoing curiosity and willingness to learn as essential factors in her continued success, often seeking guidance from medical professionals to deepen her expertise. Ms. Bittar values direct communication while upholding kindness and respect for others’ perspectives. Her Catholic faith also remains central to her worldview, crediting divine guidance for every step since arriving in the United States from Brazil at age 20. As one of 11 siblings with an early inclination toward helping others, Ms. Bittar views her life’s work as an extension of an intrinsic desire to serve.

Alongside her husband and their twin sons and daughter, she continues to nurture both business growth and familial bonds within G & J In Home Care LLC. Looking ahead, Ms. Bittar aspires to write a book about her experiences, establish a nonprofit organization supporting children based on her educational background and sustain the remarkable expansion achieved by her family business in recent years.
