Piroska Pika Sdrougias, Health Care Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in Health Plans and Insurance Contracts for Hospitals.
Ms. Sdrougias has established a long and successful career spanning 35 years in the health care industry, during which she has been recognized for her expertise in health plans and hospital insurance contracts. Since 2024, in her current capacity as a health care consultant, she has led revenue cycle operations for large hospital systems. Her responsibilities include managing the entire patient access process, from initial appointment scheduling to registration, and overseeing teams responsible for billing, collections and chargemaster functions. Ms. Sdrougias also ensures pricing accuracy and operational efficiency, with a team of 100 professionals reporting directly to her.
From 2022 to 2024, Ms. Sdrougias served as the chief payor strategy and managed care officer at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. In this role, she negotiated health plan contracts for the state’s most extensive health care system, valued at $4 billion. Ms. Sdrougias’s leadership was instrumental in optimizing managed care strategies and strengthening the institution’s financial position.
Between 2019 and 2022, Ms. Sdrougias excelled as the director of contracting, credentialing and enrollment at Tulane University Medical Group. She managed complex contracting processes and revenue cycle management initiatives, contributing to the group’s operational success. In 2010, Ms. Sdrougias was recruited as the chief executive officer of the Pathology Group of Louisiana, the second largest independent group of pathologists in the state. In this role through 2018, she guided the organization through significant growth and operational advancements.
Ms. Sdrougias’s tenure at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana, was marked by notable achievements. As the vice president of revenue cycle and managed care from 2008 to 2010, she played a pivotal role during Hurricane Katrina, when East Jefferson General Hospital was one of only three hospitals to remain open. Escorted by state troopers to the state capitol, Ms. Sdrougias advocated for urgent needs, coordinated supply deliveries and facilitated the return of medical staff. Following the crisis, she joined a team that traveled to Washington to secure a $1 billion community disaster loan for the hospital and other agencies in need.
Affiliated with East Jefferson General Hospital for 15 years, Ms. Sdrougias held dual roles as the director of managed care and executive director of a 500-physician physician-hospital organization for 10 years, beginning in 1995. She then served as the vice president of government relations and managed care, and as a government relations officer from 2005 to 2008. During that time, Ms. Sdrougias gained recognition as a key representative for the hospital by collaborating with stakeholders across Louisiana and accompanying legislators to venues statewide to explain critical bills.
Ms. Sdrougias began her career in the field at Ochsner Health in 1990, serving as the director of central appointment scheduling, billing and registration, and control desks. She was credited with installing Beta in Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans in 1992 and later testified at the National Conference of Insurance Legislators.
Ms. Sdrougias’s academic background included earning a Bachelor of Science in marketing from St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans, Louisiana. She further distinguished herself by earning a certified financial planner designation from the Denver School of Financial Planning and a Series 7 broker’s license.
A member of numerous industry organizations throughout her career, Ms. Sdrougias has served as a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, as a member of government relations officers group and workers’ compensation task force with the Louisiana Hospital Association, as a board member and education committee chair for the Louisiana Association of Health Plans, as an ad-hoc managed care committee member with the Metropolitan Hospital Council and, among other affiliations, as the chair of both the community hospital coalition legislative committee and the provider advisory task force for the house committee on insurance within the Louisiana House of Representatives.
Apart from her professional achievements, Ms. Sdrougias’s civic involvement has been extensive. She has served as the board president of Jefferson Community School, as a board member of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, and as chair of ECMO’s 10th-anniversary charitable fundraising event for Ochsner Clinic Foundation. She has also actively participated in the annual charity fundraiser committee for Classic Chefs and created a GoFundMe campaign to support Pathology Group of Louisiana employees affected by the 2016 Baton Rouge floods.
Among her accolades, Ms. Sdrougias received an award from the Louisiana Hospital Association recognizing her work assisting with the passage of critical legislation. She attributes her professional success to her personality and leadership approach, which values individual strengths while fostering teamwork and accountability. Ms. Sdrougias is also known for her deep knowledge across health care disciplines. These attributes have enabled her to testify effectively before legislative committees and prevail against formidable opposition by relying on accurate data and unwavering truthfulness. Looking ahead, Ms. Sdrougias intends to continue supporting others through honesty, clear expectations and uplifting leadership.
