AC Goldberg, PhD, CCC-SLP, assistant clinical professor at Northeastern University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in speech-language pathology and neurodivergent communities.

Celebrated for nearly 20 years in the field of speech-language pathology, Dr. Goldberg has built up an esteemed reputation for using his skills in voice specialization to help people find and embrace their authentic self. This professional journey started as a speech-language pathologist for Somerville Public Schools in 2007. While pursuing additional opportunities, Dr. Goldberg would remain at Somerville Public Schools for 15 years, working with students between the ages of 6 and 22 to evaluate, diagnose and treat communication disorders. During this time, he also provided support for autistic students, facilitated communication between multiple invested parties (families, therapists, counselors, teachers and administrators), and led professional development efforts for other professionals in the school.

While associated with Somerville Public Schools, Dr. Goldberg also contributed for six months as a speech-language pathologist for Well Said: Toronto Speech Therapy. In this role, he was able to evaluate and work with adults with a diverse range of speech-language concerns. In 2021, Dr. Goldberg founded The CREDIT Institute, where he also serves as president and executive director. Standing for Cultivating Rapport, Empathy, Dignity, Integrity and Trust, The CREDIT Institute is a nonprofit that provides consulting, educational courses and private events centered on the increasing awareness of the needs of minority populations.

After leaving Somerville Public Schools in 2022, Dr. Goldberg shifted to higher education as a visiting assistant clinical professor at Northeastern University. After several years in this position, the “visiting” designation was removed in 2025, marking him as a long-term member of the faculty. Dr. Goldberg operates within the university’s department of communication sciences, primarily working with graduate students and specializing in belonging, counseling, gender-affirming voice care, neurodivergent communication, trauma-informed care and vocal pedagogy. He also oversees a voice and communication empowerment program through the campus’ Speech-Language and Hearing Center.

In addition to his primary vocation as a teacher, Dr. Goldberg has gained further experience as a speech-language specialist with Prismatic Speech Services since 2022. This role primarily focuses on gender-affirming voice therapy, a service he finds particularly important as someone who is transgender. Further demonstrating his commitment to transgender issues, Dr. Goldberg founded Transplaining in 2012. Through this organization, he offers mentoring, training sessions and consulting services to health care professionals, teachers, hospitals and other businesses, focusing on intersectional and cultural sensitivity, especially regarding transgender individuals.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Goldberg solidified his own education, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts at Vassar College in 2001. He obtained a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Boston University in 2004. Subsequently, Dr. Goldberg earned a PhD from the University of Oxford. He has further backed up his credentials with professional training. Dr. Golberg is certified in clinical speech-language pathology through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). He is licensed as a teacher with a specialization in speech, language and hearing disorders from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Dr. Goldberg has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career. Among others, he has won the Community Engagement and Belong Faculty Award, the Health Equity Leadership Award, the Alumni Award from Boston University, the Outstanding Service Award from ASHA, and the Special Recognition Award from the Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. Though his career has been filled with many memorable moments, Dr. Goldberg is especially proud to have been nominated for the ASHA Fellowship of the Association Award in 2025. Though he didn’t win, he considers the nomination to be a great honor and recognition of his impact in his industry so far.

Outside of his career, Dr. Goldberg is a devoted husband and a loving father to two children. Moving into the latest stage of his professional path, he intends to focus on creating new opportunities and initiatives for other transgender and disabled individuals. Recognizing the need for more support for neurodivergent communities, Dr. Goldberg envisions leading efforts to improve health equity and help more people achieve their goals. He will also appear in a documentary titled “The Dads,” which will be released on Netflix next year.
