Title: Territory Manager
Company: CVRx Inc.
Location: Yulee, Florida, United States
Missy Whitney, territory manager at CVRx Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical equipment manufacturing.
Now celebrating more than 15 years in her field, Ms. Whitney originally intended to pursue a career in radiation oncology. She realized early into her education that her strong people skills would be better utilized elsewhere. Ms. Whitney worked night shifts as an MRI technician assistant at Mayo Clinic while completing her initial academic endeavors. She then accepted an offer to continue at Mayo on a non-guaranteed basis, choosing to believe that her own abilities would make the risk of this deal worth it. During that time, Ms. Whitney played a key role in launching a successful electrophysiology program at St. Luke’s Hospital. She also gained experience in hands-on procedures and surgeries, growing her knowledge through thoughtful observation.
In 2011, Ms. Whitney joined Medtronic as a principal clinical specialist, a position she held for 12 years. During this tenure, she focused on clinical research projects in the cardiac rhythm and heart failure division while also training to be a sales specialist. Ms. Whitney was later promoted to senior clinical field specialist and national field trainer before leaving Medtronic in 2023. She was hired by CVRx that year as a clinical specialist, but just a few months later, she was promoted to territory manager.
As a territory manager for CVRx, Ms. Whitney handles a large region of Florida, spanning from Jacksonville to Pensacola, including a portion of Georgia. She aids patients alongside providers in adjusting to new treatments. Ms. Whitney also assists vascular surgeons in the operating room, assisting as they implant devices. CVRx’s primary product is Barostim, an implant that sends electrical pulses to the brain to help stimulate blood flow during heart failure, reducing stress to the heart and improving long-term outcomes. Since CVRx is a relatively small company, with just over 100 managers around the United States, it relies on Ms. Whitney to educate clinics and patients in proper therapy with its devices. She often leads initial information sessions with patients to help them understand the benefits of this treatment plan.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Whitney recognized the importance of setting a strong foundation for her future. She first obtained a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from the Mayo Clinic. Eager to continue learning, Ms. Whitney returned to school later in her career, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration and management with a minor in marketing and finance from Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2022. Notably, the latter degree was pursued while she was working full-time. Ms. Whitney considers her time at Florida State College to be her greatest achievement. She also highlights the additional difficulty of balancing education and work during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Outside of her career, Ms. Whitney is a dedicated wife and a loving mother to five children. In her free time, she prioritizes exercising and staying in touch with patients who have completed their treatment. Ms. Whitney is proud of being ranked as the number one sales representative in the U.S. for CVRx, and she hopes to maintain that status in the years ahead. She also envisions contributing to the establishment of at least two more hospitals. Ms. Whitney views helping others as her primary objective throughout her life. She currently manages 80 patients and aims to double that number across the next five years.
