Courtney A. Murphy, RN, executive director of Bristol Hospice LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in hospice and long-term care.

Ms. Murphy planned to become a nurse from a young age, pursuing that dream as soon as she was able to. Her career started in 2016 as the first graduate nurse offered a position in the operating room at Cox Monett Hospital. Ms. Murphy continued building her career at that institution for several years until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. At this time, she transitioned into long-term care, hoping to aid families by providing a dependable figure during such a challenging time. Ms. Murphy currently serves as the executive director of Bristol Hospice LLC.

Shortly following this change in her career, Ms. Murphy faced a major personal tragedy when her husband was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. Though devastated by these events, she made a choice to put her pain to work in service of others. Since then, Ms. Murphy has committed herself to being a source of light and inspiration for others. Working within long-term care, she regularly interacts with both patients and family members of patients during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Ms. Murphy uses her own experiences to guide her in treating everyone she encounters with patience, grace, and care.

Before venturing onto her vocational path, Ms. Murphy established a strong academic foundation to draw upon. She earned an Associate of Science in nursing from Crowder College, graduating cum laude in 2016. As part of her education, Ms. Murphy has completed certification as a registered nurse. She has also contributed as an emergency room nurse and is a past member of the American Nurses Association.

To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Murphy has been the subject of multiple honors within her field. While attending Crowder College, she was voted president of the class for two years and received the Outstanding Graduate Award and the Representative RN Award. In 2020, Ms. Murphy was presented with the Daisy Award from Cox Monett Hospital, in recognition of her high-quality, compassionate care. She credits her success to her persistence and determination to never give up on her dreams. Ms. Murphy also notes the lessons she was taught by her mother, a professional who taught her that women can be leaders, and by her father, who provided unerring support to his entire family. She hopes her achievements demonstrate what’s possible through resilience.

Ms. Murphy has long been dedicated to civic advocacy above and beyond her professional life. She regularly volunteers at soup kitchens, serving people going through tough life circumstances. Additionally, Ms. Murphy prides herself on making regular donations to causes in support of homeless people, further emphasizing her boundless empathy.

Outside of her nearly 10-year career, Ms. Murphy is a loving mother to four and grandmother to five. In her free time, she finds joy in traveling and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. Looking ahead, Ms. Murphy is devoted to continued growth in her role at Bristol Hospice. Beyond her own day-to-day contributions, she hopes to turn more of her time and energy toward training other nurses. Ms. Murphy aims to serve as a role model for younger colleagues, ensuring that they have all the information necessary to excel and showcasing the powerful effect their care can have on the lives of their patients and their extended families.
