Jonathan P. Hancock, MSN, nurse practitioner at Atlantic Brain and Spine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care and nursing.
Mr. Hancock, an accomplished health care professional with in-depth expertise in vascular neurosurgery, joined Atlantic Brain and Spine in New Jersey as a nurse practitioner in 2016. As a dedicated team member, he specializes in providing care to patients with brain, complex spine, trauma, tumor and cerebrovascular conditions. Spending most of his time assisting physicians in the operating room, Mr. Hancock is focused on ensuring patients receive quality care. He also ensures that patients and their families receive individualized care instructions once they leave the facility. Brain and Spine has four locations throughout the state, including Morristown, Summit, Manalapan and New Brunswick.
Before being acquired by Atlantic Brain and Spine, Mr. Hancock led a diverse career in the field, beginning as a surgical and medical intensive care unit (ICU) nurse and unit educator for both units at Morristown Medical Center. He subsequently worked for Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, New Jersey, and JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, as an ICU step-down nurse, mobile intensive care nurse and ICU and neuro ICU nurse.
Throughout his remarkable career, Mr. Hancock had the opportunity to present before numerous groups. He was also a co-investigator for the MIND trial, which focused on treating hemorrhagic strokes. Moreover, Mr. Hancock co-authored a publication about caring for Moyamoya disease, a disease in the brain where specific arteries are restricted.
Highly educated in preparation for his career in health care, Mr. Hancock received a Bachelor of Science in nursing, summa cum laude, from Kaplan University in 2012 and a Master of Science in nursing from Drexel University in 2016. He also holds several professional credentials, including a certified neuroscience registered nurse and adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. Additionally, Mr. Hancock received firefighter certification through the Firefighter Academy.
Mr. Hancock honorably served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy. His service was recognized by being decorated with a U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Achievement Medal in 2008 for his deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Hancock is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and was elected into the Golden Key International Honour Society. Civically, he is affiliated with the Freemasons.
Electing to study nursing after high school, Mr. Hancock was inspired by generations of nurses in his family, including his father, mother and grandmother. Witnessing their professions while coming of age and the satisfaction they derived from their work inspired him to pursue the profession. As he prepares for the future, Mr. Hancock intends to continue in his role with Atlantic Brain and Spine, contributing to the health care facility’s success and reputation for excellence.
In recognition of his success and tenure, Mr. Hancock has received numerous accolades. His first award was presented to him in 2005 when Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center named him the Rookie of the Year. He also received a Neuroscience Excellence Award from Atlantic Health Systems in 2012. Reflecting on these awards and his many accomplishments in the field, Mr. Hancock believes that dedication, being proactive, and embracing challenges have been instrumental in his ability to grow, learn and continually excel.
