Gibson I. Erhunmwunse, DNP, CRNP-BC, Owner and Nurse Practitioner at Pavilion Medical Home Care and Staffing, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Heathcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Dr. Erhunmwunse was initially drawn into the field of healthcare by his childhood fascination with medicine, particularly through his experiences accompanying his father to the hospital. Driven by his unwavering commitment to healing and improving the lives of others, his passion for nursing was only solidified in the decades that followed, in which he cemented himself as a leader, a mentor, and a trainer for the next generation of medical professionals.

After completing undergraduate coursework in geology in Nigeria, Dr. Erhunmwunse embarked on his academic pursuits in the United States, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University in 1996. He subsequently continued his formal studies through a collaborative program between George Mason University and The George Washington University, after which he graduated with a master’s degree in nursing practice in 2000. In 2022, he concluded his higher education with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Maryland, an achievement he cites among his professional highlights. Notably, Dr. Erhunmwunse’s doctoral research focused on quality improvement and healthcare system enhancement through evidence-based practice and innovation.

In addition to these endeavors, Dr. Erhunmwunse demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for clinical practice and a keen interest in specializing in the care of adult and geriatric populations. As such, he has obtained his board certifications as a registered nurse practitioner and a geriatric nurse practitioner. Over the years, Dr. Erhunmwunse has also practiced and refined his skills as a registered nurse at a hospital’s critical care unit, a nurse practitioner at a regional nursing home, a pulmonary nurse practitioner at Fairfax Hospital, a contractor and nurse practitioner for the U.S. Department of Defense, and a nurse practitioner with mobile city units in Fort Bedford and Fort Bragg.

Since 2005, Dr. Erhunmwunse has excelled as the owner of Pavilion Medical Home Care and Staffing, where he has further operated as a nurse practitioner. Outside of providing direct, compassionate, and comprehensive care for his patients, he is responsible for administrative duties as well, including management of the agency, budgeting, and policy development. His impact extended beyond the confines of his clinical practice, as evidenced by his founding of a nonprofit organization dedicated to HIV awareness and support in 2006. Dr. Erhunmwunse’s dedication to addressing pressing healthcare issues transcended geographical boundaries, leading him to spearhead initiatives aimed at combating HIV/AIDS in his native country of Nigeria.

Beyond his clinical and entrepreneurial endeavors, Dr. Erhunmwunse’s impact is evident in his role as a mentor and educator, imparting his wealth of knowledge to the next generation of healthcare leaders. He has even extended his passion for education to his own family, to whom he serves as a role model for his children as he motivates them to pursue their passions and make meaningful contributions to society. Dr. Erhunmwunse also gives back to professionals within his own industry through his affiliation with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Gerontological Society of America.

Attributing his success to his unwavering commitment to his profession, his modesty, and his unwavering desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others, Dr. Erhunmwunse received recognition from the State of Tennessee for leading a delegation of medical professionals to Nigeria as part of an HIV movement. He was also celebrated with a Community Contribution Award from his local sheriff’s department. Looking toward the future, Dr. Erhunmwunse hopes to bring about significant improvements to the field of nursing in the coming years by engaging with entrepreneurs and the business community while simultaneously aiming to publish his book.
