Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, United States

Steven M. Simon, founder and president at Help Anorexia and Bulimia Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mental healthcare.

With over 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Simon has excelled as president and founder of Help Anorexia and Bulimia Inc. In this pro-bono role, he worked extensively as a consultant, engaging in media and press activities, participating in conferences, sitting on panels, and helping families and individuals find better healthcare facilities. Over his tenure in the field, he garnered a stellar reputation as a program director with a number of mental health facilities.

In the 1980s, Mr. Simon founded Help Anorexia and Bulimia Inc. to create an educational referral organization that would go to hospitals and help people struggling with eating disorders. His motivation for starting the organization came from his first wife’s tragic battle with anorexia nervosa. Help Anorexia and Bulimia Inc. acts as an educational referral organization, providing patients with information about doctors who may be best suited to help them. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Simon remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the California Speakers Bureau and the Rotary Club. He also sat on the board of the Mental Health Association.

Mr. Simon considers his efforts in regard to anorexia nervosa and bulimia as his most notable career accomplishment. He was invited to a meeting to discuss the California State Medical Program with the Department of Public Social Services, where he advocated for these illnesses to be classified as life-threatening disorders. Another of his significant accomplishments was at the UCLA Psychiatric Department, where he fought their policy of making people with eating disorders stay in their rooms, successfully overturning the policy for patients affected with anorexia nervosa. In the coming years, he aims to continue his involvement with the Rotary Club and help recruit new members, while continuing to spread awareness with his organization.
