With 25 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Matteo has excelled as a mental fitness coach at Battle Sports Academy since 2023. She began her career as a senior laboratory instructor at the Polytechnique Institute of New York University, now New York University Tandon School of Engineering, from 1996 to 1999. She worked as a programmer at Symbol Technologies, Inc. from 1998 to 1999. At International Business Machines Corporation, she contributed as an expert-level certified project manager from 1999 to 2014, a global security solution design manager from 2015 to 2018, and as a bid excellence and automation program manager since 2018. Concurrently, she has been active as an instructor at TopKick Martial Arts and a senior advisor at Link OT, LLC since 2023.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Matteo pursued an education at the Polytechnique Institute of New York University, now New York University Tandon School of Engineering, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science, minoring in technical communications, in 1999. She concluded her studies at Walden University, graduating with a Master of Psychology in industrial and organizational psychology in 2007. She is certified as a project management professional from the Project Management Institute, Inc. in 2022.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Matteo has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She held executive and leadership positions with the Virginia Mental Health Access Program, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the International Business Machines Corporation, the Boy Scouts of America, Loudoun County Public Schools, and This Is My Brave, Inc. She was a member of the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce and Diversity Equity Inclusion Access Committee, the Trauma-Informed Community Network, the Loudoun Human Services Network and Disabilities Committee, and the Neurodiversity Business Resource Group of International Business Machines Corporation. She volunteered for over 1,300 hours with the Monmouth Medical Center and contributed to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Matteo has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was the first recipient of the Loudoun County Resilience Award from the Trauma-Informed Community Network and was presented with the Youth Education Champion Award from the Northern Virginia chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She was selected for a full academic scholarship and a full art scholarship for the High School “Draw Me” Competitions. In the immediate future, she intends to retire and redirect her focus towards her advocacy work.
