With 20 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Barton-Scherder has excelled as an outpatient therapist at Preferred Family Healthcare since 2021 and program director and owner of Family Circle Therapeutic Services since 2003. She began her career as a social sciences teacher at Silex High School from 1987 to 1995. At the Missouri Department of Social Services, she contributed as a children’s services worker from 1995 to 1998, a children’s services supervisor from 1998 to 2003, a social services specialist from 2016 to 2021, and a trauma specialist and liaison to the 10th Circuit from 2018 to 2021. She established herself as an outpatient therapist and family development specialist at Evergreen Behavioral Services from 2003 to 2007 before transitioning to the role of mental health counselor at Cornerstone: Foundation for Families from 2007 to 2011.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Barton-Scherder pursued an education at Hannibal LaGrange University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in education in 1987. She concluded her studies at Lindenwood University, graduating with a Master of Arts in professional counseling in 2003. She holds six certifications from LinkedIn, is a licensed professional counselor, and is a court-approved mediator.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Barton-Scherder has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She held the role of secretary of the Family Readiness Program at the Missouri National Guard from 2011 to 2018. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She was a member of the Family Readiness Program of the Missouri National Guard and Douglass Community Services.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Barton-Scherder has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was nominated for and published in the Outstanding Young Women of America and Distinguished Teachers of America. She received several awards for her volunteer efforts with the National Guard. In the immediate future, she is contemplating retiring and spending more time with her family.
