Ashley C. Ms. Ryan has established herself in dental hygiene and orofacial myofunctional therapy, marked by a commitment to patient-centered care and professional advancement. Since 2024, she has served as the founder, dental hygienist, and orofacial myofunctional therapist at Ashley Ryan Myology & Wellness LLC. In this capacity, Ms. Ryan provides specialized therapy for the oral, facial and neck muscles, addressing conditions such as sleep-disordered breathing, jaw pain, gag reflex issues and tongue-tie, as well as pediatric airway concerns and oral habits, including thumb sucking. Her expertise in airway-focused and holistic dentistry underscores her dedication to comprehensive patient wellness.
In addition to managing her own health care facility, Ms. Ryan has been serving as a registered dental hygienist at Herre Holistic Dental KC in Leawood, Kansas, a role she has held since 2022. Here, she integrates airway-centered and preventive dental care into her practice, guided by her proficiency in holistic approaches to dentistry and myofunctional therapy.
Previously affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry, Ms. Ryan served as an adjunct clinical assistant professor from 2021 to 2024. This role followed her tenure as a clinical assistant professor on campus between 2019 and 2021 and as an adjunct clinical assistant professor from 2016 to 2019. During her years at the university, Ms. Ryan was recognized for her impact on students’ professional growth and found teaching to be one of the most rewarding aspects of her career.
Earlier, Ms. Ryan’s clinical experience included serving as a registered dental hygienist at Stone Post Family Dental in Overland Park, Kansas, from 2016 to 2019. She also gained experience as a dental office assistant at Lenz Family and Cosmetic Dentistry between 2013 and 2014.
Ms. Ryan’s professional journey began with four years of service as an administration specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California, from 2008 to 2012. She is proud to be a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and credits her military experience with instilling values of perseverance, hard work and dedication that have shaped her subsequent achievements.
In preparation for her future, Ms. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene from the UMKC in 2016. Her academic preparation has been instrumental in supporting her clinical expertise and teaching roles. Additionally, Ms. Ryan holds numerous certifications that enhance her practice, including CPR and basic life support from the American Heart Association, Inc., Myo Munchee practitioner certificate from Myo Munchee, tongue-tied academy certificate from the Tongue-Tied Academy, OA functional breathing instructor certificate from Oxygen Advantage, and, among others, The Myo Method certificate from The Myo Method. She also maintains an active dental hygiene license.
Ms. Ryan is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and the American Dental Education Association. She has also contributed to professional education as a speaker for continuing education lectures on myofunctional therapy through Clinicians Platform. Ms. Ryan plans to continue speaking professionally at conferences, such as the Midwest Dental Conference at the UMKC, and seeks to contribute to efforts to regulate the profession.
Beyond her clinical practice, Ms. Ryan’s commitment has extended into civic engagement and volunteerism. She supports Ronald McDonald House Kansas City and volunteers with Team Smile, Operation Breakthrough in Kansas City and Harvesters Community Food Network. Previously, Ms. Ryan served as a clinician for Give Kids a Smile and was active with Swope Health Services.
Ms. Ryan’s excellence has been recognized with multiple awards, including Junior Clinical Faculty of the Year by the UMKC School of Dentistry Student Council, Distinguished Teacher by the Class of 2020 at the UMKC School of Dentistry and Junior Clinical Faculty of the Year by the Dental Hygiene Class of 2021. For her military contributions, she received the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Achievement Medal, awarded by the General of the First Marine Division.
Ms. Ryan attributes much of her success to the foundational values learned during her military service as well as her passion for continuous learning. Influential mentors have also played a significant role throughout her development. Looking ahead, Ms. Ryan aims to expand her private practice into a full-time endeavor at its first physical location while continuing to raise awareness about myofunctional therapy within both community settings and among health care professionals. She hopes to be remembered for genuine care for those she serves, demonstrating a passion for providing optimal care and making a meaningful difference in patients’ lives through dedication to their well-being.
