Lisa Michelle Spearman, Mental Health Therapist at Shoreline Wellness Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in Mental Health Therapy.
Ms. Spearman has established herself as a dedicated mental health therapist, demonstrating expertise and compassion throughout her decade-long career. Since 2020, she has served at Shoreline Wellness Center, where she manages a caseload of approximately 65 to 70 clients ranging in age from 6 to 70. In this capacity, Ms. Spearman provides therapy services to individuals, couples, families, adolescents, children and adults. Her work addresses a broad spectrum of concerns, including anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, trauma and significant life transitions. She is known for her ability to build rapport with clients from the outset, conducting thorough intake assessments to understand their motivations for seeking therapy and tailoring her approach to support their unique needs.
Eager for the future, Ms. Spearman is set to join Grow Therapy, further expanding her reach within the mental health community. Her commitment to accessible care is evident in her decision to obtain licensure in Alabama in 2024, following an approach from an individual in that state who specifically sought her therapeutic guidance.
Earlier in her mental health therapy journey, Ms. Spearman contributed her skills at the Agency on Aging from 2018 to 2020. There, she provided essential services to seniors within their homes, supporting their well-being and independence during a critical period in their lives. This experience broadened Ms. Spearman’s understanding of the unique challenges faced by older adults and reinforced her commitment to serving diverse populations.
Ms. Spearman began her career as a senior administrative assistant, where she spent over 15 years, including tenure at Yale New Haven Hospital within Yale New Haven Health. During this time, she balanced administrative responsibilities with early exposure to social work practices.
Ms. Spearman’s academic background has been instrumental in shaping her career trajectory. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven in 2007, followed by a master’s degree on campus in 2013 while working full-time. These academic accomplishments provided a strong foundation for Ms. Spearman’s clinical practice and informed her approach to client care.
In addition to her formal education, Ms. Spearman’s professional credentials include licensure as a clinical social worker and certification as a mental health therapist in Alabama since 2024. She also holds training for adoption competency certification, equipping her with specialized knowledge to support adoptive families and individuals navigating the complexities of adoption and foster care.
Ms. Spearman’s career reflects not only professional expertise but also personal resilience and an unwavering dedication to helping others achieve well-being across all stages of life. She attributes much of her success to qualities such as understanding, compassion and empathy, skills she believes are distinct from simply listening or hearing others. Ms. Spearman consistently strives to view situations from the perspective of those she serves, focusing on their goals rather than imposing her own agenda. This client-centered philosophy has been central to her effectiveness as a therapist.
Family support has played a pivotal role throughout Ms. Spearman’s journey. As a single parent during much of her educational and professional advancement, she relied on the encouragement and assistance of loved ones, particularly when adopting children into her family. Her father’s history as a foster child influenced her experiences as an adoptive mother and has inspired her ongoing commitment to supporting families involved in adoption and foster care systems.
Looking ahead, Ms. Spearman remains deeply committed to advancing mental health support for both children and seniors while focusing on increasing adoption competency among families. She envisions expanding training programs and fostering more direct engagement with families so that children are placed in healthy environments equipped to meet their unique needs. Through these efforts, Ms. Spearman aims to create opportunities for connection and collaboration that empower others to give back within their communities.
