Company:
New York University
Location:
Brooklyn, New York, United States

Lisa Anne Jaeger, adjunct instructor of applied psychology at New York University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mental health and mental health education.

For more than 40 years, Ms. Jaeger has forged an esteemed reputation in the fields of psychology and mental health education. Initially pursuing a professional life focused on English and dance, she suffered a life-changing accident and began considering other options while recovering. During this time, Ms. Jaeger discovered she had a strong aptitude for psychology and counseling. Her first role in this profession was as a geriatric outreach worker for a New York service program in 1984.

Quickly embracing her newfound skill, Ms. Jaeger opened her own practice in 1986, offering psychotherapy and private counseling. Through this practice, she works with individuals, couples and groups in clinical settings. Ms. Jaeger prioritizes helping clients who feel as though they have lost parts of themselves or have been diminished by their life experiences, working hard to help them reconnect with themselves. Her talent in therapy is mirrored in the impact she has on her clients; many clients return to her years after winding down sessions to check in or follow up on their progress. Notably, Ms. Jaeger largely relies on word-of-mouth referrals for finding new clients rather than advertising or social media presence. This is also reflected in her approach to psychotherapy, which focuses on more in-depth work with clients rather than surface-level cognitive behavioral therapy.

Early in her counseling career, Ms. Jaeger began taking classes for a PhD and was required to teach some classes herself as part of the program. Though hesitant at first, she soon realized how much she enjoyed teaching and decided to make it a key element of her professional life. Since 1987, Ms. Jaeger has served as an adjunct professor in the department of applied psychology at New York University. She finds that her clinical work enhances her classroom lessons and vice versa, creating a versatility that sets her apart from both many other practicing psychologists and many other educators in the topic. Ms. Jaeger considers her dual mastery of teaching and clinical psychology to be the greatest achievement of her career. She also contributed for several years as a mentor and group facilitator for New York University’s study abroad program on cross-cultural and group dynamics in stressful situations in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Ms. Jaeger’s performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and dance from the State University of New York College at Geneseo in 1977. Subsequently, Ms. Jaeger earned a Master of Arts in counseling from New York University in 1983. She is licensed as a mental health counselor and completed some work toward a PhD before shifting her focus to parenting.

In addition to her career in mental health, Ms. Jaeger is a devoted wife to her husband, Dr. William Walsh, a chiropractor, and a loving mother to two children, Jillian and Morgan. She prefers to fill up her free hours with reading, her favorite hobby. While eager to continue her success with her private practice and her teaching position at New York University, Ms. Jaeger also harbors ambitions for expanding into new areas in the near future. Most notably, she hopes to write her first book in the years ahead, though she hasn’t decided whether it will be academic nonfiction or fiction.
