Julian G. Kingsley, MS, perfusionist at Tufts Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Mr. Kingsley is a distinguished perfusionist at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he is instrumental in between 700 to 800 heart surgeries annually. His role involves setting up and operating the heart and lung machine during cardiac and other similar surgeries, preparing drugs from the pharmacy, handling paperwork and charting, and managing circulatory support, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Mr. Kingsley’s journey into the medical field was influenced by his mother, a respiratory therapist, who introduced him to opportunities within the health care sector.
Before becoming a perfusionist in 2024, after completing his advanced degree, Mr. Kingsley was a certified surgical technologist at Maine Medical Center in Portland from 2019 to 2022. During this time, he earned a United States patent for the bayonet surgical scissor in 2021. Mr. Kingsley’s earlier career included several years as a police officer before transitioning from civil service to health care.
Mr. Kingsley’s foundation began in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served his country from 2013 to 2019. His tenure in the military included serving as an infantry squad leader and infantry rifleman. The discipline and skills he acquired as a U.S. Marine were pivotal to shaping his career in both law and health care.
Mr. Kingsley’s academic background is extensive and diverse. He received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, in 2015, followed by a diploma in surgical technology from the Maine Medical Center School of Surgical Technology in 2019. He furthered his education with a post-baccalaureate certificate in premedical studies from the University of Southern Maine in Portland in 2021. Mr. Kingsley also recently completed a Master of Science in clinical perfusion from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, in 2024.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Kingsley received several professional certifications, making him highly qualified in the medical field. These include becoming a certified surgical technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, a certified clinical perfusionist from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, and a perfusionist license through the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Perfusionists.
Mr. Kingsley remains actively involved in several industry-related organizations, including the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization and the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion. He also served as the director of the Maine Association of Surgical Technologists. Mr. Kingsley’s civic involvement was recognized when he served as a search and rescue team member with the Civil Air Patrol from 2005 to 2012. This experience has contributed to his strong sense of community service and dedication to helping others.
As a researcher in an ever-evolving landscape, Mr. Kingsley has co-authored numerous publications on various topics, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and protective mechanical ventilation for treating acute respiratory failure. His ongoing desire to continually learn and progress is a testament to his passion for the health care field.
Mr. Kingsley’s contributions have been recognized with several awards, such as the Jeanne Lange Excellence in Professionalism Award from Upstate Medical University. Looking ahead to the future of his career in health care, he aims to continue developing his expertise in heart failure treatment and advancing medical practices within this field.
