Ms. Melzer’s expertise in generalist phlebotomy, hematology and urinalysis has been instrumental in her career, allowing her to contribute significantly to patient care. She takes immense pride in seeing patients leave the hospital with clean bills of health, which she considers one of her most notable achievements.

Greater Regional Health is recognized for its mission of providing the highest quality of care and service to its patients. The health care organization has four rural health clinics throughout Southwest Iowa with locations in Corning, Lenox, Mount Ayr, and its newest location in Greenfield, Iowa, employing over 500 staff members. Furthermore, Greater Regional Health offers over 50 different service lines.

In preparation for her future, Ms. Melzer graduated with an associate degree from Alexandria Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1977, laying a strong foundation for her professional journey. In addition to her formal education, she received several professional credentials as a certified laboratory assistant from the American Society of Clinical Pathology and a clinical laboratory technologist from the Health and Human Services. These designations further attest to Ms. Melzer’s commitment to maintaining high standards in her work.

Throughout her career, Ms. Melzer has been actively involved in various civic-minded organizations, including the American Legion Auxiliary, the VSW Ladies Auxiliary and the Greater Regional Health Auxiliary. These affiliations have allowed her to stay connected with peers and continue making a difference in her community and beyond. Additionally, Ms. Melzer serves as a board member at Trinity Lutheran Church, demonstrating her dedication to religious engagement.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to health care, Ms. Melzer was honored with the Hospital Hero Award in 2023. This accolade reflects her unwavering commitment to patient care and her ability to positively impact the hospital setting.

Ms. Melzer attributes much of her success in the health care sector to a combination of luck and prayer, which have guided her throughout her career and personal endeavors. Her journey is a testament to the power of dedication in achieving one’s goals while making meaningful contributions to her profession and community. Over the past few decades, Ms. Melzer has worked diligently to prove herself in the industry and has drawn significant satisfaction from her work.

Looking ahead, Ms. Melzer plans to become more involved with her craft work by showcasing her work at a local farmers market booth. Ultimately, she intends to pursue retirement from the health care field. This will allow Ms. Melzer more time to pursue various personal pursuits and projects, like building a patio with raised flower beds and tending to her garden.
