Mr. Burkhartsmeier is renowned for his long and successful career in medical technology, presently serving as the laboratory director at the Community Health Clinical Laboratory LLC since 2018. Responsible for overseeing operations, his highly automated clinical laboratory serves the entire central coast of California. Additionally, Mr. Burkhartsmeier has served as the president of Collaboratory Resource since 2015, a medical laboratory consulting company based in Port Townsend, Washington. His career history dates back to his years in the United States Navy, where he garnered experience as a hospital corpsman 1st class, medical technologist and clinical research technologist from 1970 to 1975.
With an extensive background in the field that has spanned over 40 years, Mr. Burkhartsmeier was a laboratory director at numerous facilities, including the Microbiology Reference Laboratory and Precision Diagnostics LLC. He also co-founded and served as the chief executive officer at LabDat Inc. and, among other noteworthy roles, was the system director of laboratory services at Sharp HealthCare. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Burkhartsmeier had the opportunity to work with several renowned laboratory directors, including Dr. Albert Nichols and Dr. James B. Peter, which motivated him to excel in his field.
A graduate of Washington State University, Mr. Burkhartsmeier received a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences in 1974. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Science in medical technology from California State University in Dominguez Hills in 1981. Apart from his degrees, he received professional credentials as a laboratory director through the California Department of Public Health and as a high-complexity laboratory director through the American Board of Bioanalysis. He has also been active in the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine, where he remains at the forefront of his field. Mr. Burkhartsmeier’s success was recognized with a Meritorious Unit Commendation Award and an Achievement Medal from the U.S. Navy, as well as a Core Award and Pillar Award from Sharpe HealthCare. He attributes his success to hard work and having the opportunity to work with some of the most capable laboratory directors in the industry.
