Kathryn G. Froiland-Deck, retired oncology nurse educator at Tesaro, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.

Ms. Froiland-Deck, a retired oncology nurse educator for Tesaro (now Glaxo Smith Kline Oncology), concluded her career in 2020 after more than 45 years in the health care sector. Having spent five years in her position, she previously served as an oncology clinical nurse educator for GSK from 2003 to 2015. Among other noteworthy roles, Ms. Froiland-Deck garnered success at various other facilities, such as the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as a senior nursing instructor, senior wound ostomy contingency nurse, and director of the wound ostomy continence nurse education program between 1991 and 2003. Earlier, she excelled as a hospice nurse at the Mayo Clinic Foundation and in several other nursing roles at area hospitals in Minnesota, dating back to 1979.

In preparation for her future, Ms. Froiland-Deck studied at Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she acquired a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1979. Years later, she returned to college and acquired a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Texas in Houston in 1994. Beyond her education, Ms. Froiland-Deck has been active with several industry organizations, such as the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Society and the Oncology Nursing Society as a former Houston chapter secretary, president-elect, president and member of the board of directors. Civically committed, she has been dedicated to volunteering with the American Cancer Society in Houston for over 30 years since 1991.

Throughout her remarkable tenure in the health care setting, Ms. Froiland-Deck enjoyed many highlights, including her nomination for the MD Anderson Award. She has also received numerous accolades, including an Excellence in Clinical Care Award from NurseWeek in 2001, recognition as the WOCN of the Year by the South Central Region of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Society that same year, and a Distinguished Alumna Award from the University of Texas-Houston’s school of nursing in 2002. Reflecting on her career, Ms. Froiland-Deck’s most notable achievements were the many lives she touched through her work, those that survived medical attention and those that did not.
