Marty Ferrero, executive director of Spero Recovery Center and Spero Behavioral Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professional for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mental health and wellness.
With over three decades of experience, Mr. Ferrero has built a successful career in health care, specializing in mental wellness and outpatient mental health programs. He currently serves as executive director of Spero Recovery Center, a role he has held since 2024, where he manages a comprehensive three-phase residential program. His responsibilities include supervising clinical staff and overseeing the daily programming, case management, and clinical recovery services. His experience also includes serving as executive director at Promises Behavioral Health from 2023 to 2024, clinical director of digital health at Recovery Centers of America from 2021 to 2023, and senior clinical director for adult services at Caron Treatment Centers from 2010 to 2020. He worked as a clinical supervisor at Hazelden Springbrook from 2007 to 2008 and as an addictions counselor at Hazelden Foundation from 1996 to 2007. Earlier in his career, he taught high school in Massachusetts. He is an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous with over 31 years of involvement, a donor to the National Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund, and has hosted public radio programs, as well as a keynote speaker at national conferences.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Ferrero earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1985, a Master of Arts in addictions counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School in 2006, and several professional certifications, including Certified Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counselor–Advanced, Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and Certified Clinical Supervisor. Reflecting on his career path, he initially started as a teacher but struggled with drug addiction, which led him to leave teaching and work minimally for his family’s business to support his habit. Realizing the toll his addiction had taken on his values and life, a friend intervened, and at the age of 30, he sought help and returned home, commiting himself to a life of recovery and sobriety. He takes great pride in developing a specialized program for health care executives working with older adults, and his ability to provide individuals and families with hope, showing them that change is possible. He credits his success to his professional relationships, which have helped others understand how he operates and what he brings to the table and feels blessed for the opportunity to work with such inspiring people. As he looks to the future, he is reflecting on his legacy and preparing for a transition of slowing down, focusing on passing down his values and the work he has helped create.
