Lisa Wickens-Alteri, President and Founder at Capital Health Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare advocacy and administration.
Ms. Wickens-Alteri is an esteemed professional in the health care sector, renowned for her strategic thinking and advocacy in government relations and lobbying. As the president and founder of Capital Health Consulting, established in 2016 and officially opened in 2017, she has dedicated herself to representing companies and providers who serve patients, ensuring high-quality care. Her work involves consulting services as a registered nurse, managing multiple associations including those representing dermatologists and plastic surgeons, and initiating a new society for ambulatory cardiac physicians. She is deeply involved in advocating for the treatment of substance use and mental health issues, collaborating with state agencies to address these critical matters.
Ms. Wickens-Alteri’s career began at the age of 15 when she worked at a retirement home while attending high school and college. In 1986, she accepted a position as a registered nurse at a nursing home in Albany County, where she served until 2000. During her tenure, she advanced from bedside nurse to administrator, gaining valuable experience that would shape her future endeavors. In 1999, she joined the New York State Department of Health as deputy director for the Office of Continuing Care, where she excelled in a pivotal role in developing programs such as the nursing home hotline and quality assurance initiatives.
Ms. Wickens-Alteri’s most notable achievement during her tenure with the New York State Department of Health was establishing the first pediatric ventilator program in New York State within a nursing home setting. This initiative allowed children requiring ventilator care to receive treatment within the state. Ms. Wickens-Alteri continued her impactful work with the department until 2007, finding success as principal investigator on the HRSA grant for the bioterrorism program following the September 11 attacks and contributing to pandemic influenza planning.
Soon thereafter, Ms. Wickens-Alteri joined SigmaCare as vice president of health policy initiatives, where she contributed to expanding the company’s client base significantly. She then transitioned to Ostroff, Hiffa & Associates, Inc., working as a lobbyist before becoming appointed as the president of Whiteman Health & Human Services at Once Commerce Plaza from 2013 to 2016. Her leadership skills were further honed during this period as she established teams and offered her wealth of expertise to various health-related projects.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Ms. Wickens-Alteri has been active with several industry-related organizations such as the Elizabeth Seton Board and the Long-Term Care Community Coalition. Her civic contributions include her recruitment as a board member for Northern Rivers in Albany. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including several Commissioner’s and Governor’s Awards from the New York State Department of Health and an award for her substance use work from Albany County.
A native of Albany, New York, Ms. Wickens-Alteri supported her professional ambitions by earning an associate’s degree in nursing from Maria College in 1986, which laid the foundation for her successful career in health care. She attributes her achievements to overcoming personal challenges and draws inspiration from her grandparents’ encouragement and the unwavering support of her children. Influenced by Wayne Osten, Ms. Wickens-Alteri initially aspired to become a doctor but decided upon a career in nursing due to financial constraints and a passion for improving people’s health. Looking toward the future, Ms. Wickens-Alteri hopes to find balance between her career and personal life by bringing in a partner to grow Capital Health Consulting into a valuable resource both locally and nationally upon her eventual retirement.
