Mr. Crowl has built a successful career in health care, specializing in LGBTQ+ care with a particular focus on the transgender population. Since 2024, he has served as the founder, licensed mental health counselor, and clinical director at City Mental Health Counseling. His prior experience includes roles as Care Manager Supervisor at Care Design NY from 2020 to 2024, and as a licensed mental health counselor at both Modern Therapy Group, from 2023 to 2024, and Mindful Moments in 2021. Additionally, he has held positions as a residential manager and treatment coordinator at AHRC New York City from 2015 to 2019. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Master of Science in Education, specializing in mental health counseling, from St. Bonaventure University in 2021. He also holds certifications in dialectical behavior therapy, clinical trauma, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
Mr. Crowl explains that he adopts an eclectic approach to therapy, specializing in PTSD, anxiety, depression, codependency, LGBT+ lifestyle, and transition support. In his practice, he incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address thought patterns and behaviors, as well as Gottman Therapy to improve relational dynamics through trust, communication, and emotional understanding. He also focuses on building strong rapport with clients, creating a safe, enjoyable space for healing. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was featured on The Donna Drake Show on CBS in 2024 to discuss his methods and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Crowl began his career working with a nonprofit organization that provided housing and group therapy for individuals with developmental disabilities. The tragic loss of a close friend to suicide inspired him to pursue mental health counseling, with the goal of supporting those in need. After more than 10 years in the developmental disabilities field, he transitioned to private practice as a psychotherapist. During his time at Care Design NY as a care manager, he coordinated services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and his exemplary performance led to his promotion to care manager supervisor in 2020. Concurrently, he gained valuable experience as a mental health counselor intern at Mindful Moments in 2021. His expertise in LGBTQ+ care, particularly focusing on the transgender population, was honed during his tenure at Modern Therapy Group from 2021 to 2024, during which time he received his mental health counselor license in 2023.
Mr. Crowl attributes his accomplishments to the unwavering support of his husband and the valuable training programs that have expanded his professional expertise. Additionally, he believes that success is measured by helping as many as people he can. Looking ahead, he is committed to making affordable and accessible mental health counseling available to individuals across the state of New York. As he continues to grow his practice, he looks forward to supervising mental health counselors, including interns and Limited Permit holders, to share his knowledge and resources with emerging professionals in the field. He would also like to leave a legacy in the field as someone who did their best to provide equal and affordable care to help make positive changes in people’s lives.
