In his role, he provides strategic advice and executive counseling to executive teams and boards of hospitals and health systems, specializing in health care management strategy and helping organizations develop sustainable, high-quality services. Tremendously successful, Dr. Mason has advised over 400 health care organizations across 40 states in the past four decades as a qualified consultant. Leveraging his tenure, he formerly worked for various leading organizations, including National Health Advisors, Apache Medical Systems and Cushman & Wakefield, dating back to 1979.
Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Mason received a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience, with honors, from Duke University in 1973, a Master of Public Administration in hospital administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1975 and a Doctor of Public Administration in health policy and management from The George Washington University in 1981. Active in his professional community, he is recognized as a life fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Mason has also been active civically as the chair of the American College of Healthcare Executives’s (ACHE) health care consultant’s forum committee since 2020 and as the Raymond A. Mason School of Business executive partner at William & Mary since 2022.
Adding to his credentials, Dr. Mason has authored several professional publications, such as the “Healthcare Consultant’s Handbook: Career Options and Best Practices” in 2021. His newest book, “The Great American Disruption,” is due out soon. His goal is to continue to publish and speak frequently on critical topics, including health care. Dr. Mason’s success has been recognized with several accolades, including a Service Award from the ACHE.
