Larry J. Wagner II, DPT, physical therapist at The Physical Therapy Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physical therapy.
With nearly two decades of experience, Dr. Wagner has built a successful career in health care, specializing in physical therapy and rehabilitation. Since 2023, he has served as a physical therapist and clinic manager at The Physical Therapy Institute in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania. The privately owned business operates 27 locations across Western Pennsylvania, offering outpatient and private practice services. In his roles, he manages the Lower Burrell clinic, where he is the sole physical therapist working alongside a physical therapist assistant. Together, they handle patient evaluations, treatments, and discharges while also managing administrative tasks such as checking in clients and collecting co-pays. He strongly believes in the effectiveness of manual therapy, incorporating techniques like joint and spinal mobilizations, manual traction, and stretching into about 90% of his patient treatments, always aiming for functional outcomes with patient input.
Dr. Wagner’s experience includes roles as a physical therapist with UPMC Home Healthcare from 2017 to 2023, director of rehabilitation at Panther Physical Therapy from 2015 to 2017, and physical therapist at Allegheny Valley Hospital from 2008 to 2015. He also worked at Magee Women’s Hospital from 2007 to 2008 and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1995 to 1998 and the Army National Guard. In addition, he dedicates his time as a board member of the Frazer Sportsmen’s Club and is actively involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in sports and exercise science from Gannon University in 2004, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the same institution in 2007.
Reflecting on his path, Dr. Wagner considers earning his doctoral degree and dedicating 17 years to his field as his most significant accomplishments. He is proud of the 5/5 star rating he has received on Google reviews for The Physical Therapy Institute and finds great fulfillment in helping patients, especially young athletes, return to the sports and activities they love. One of his most rewarding experiences was assisting a high school athlete with a severe knee injury to regain the ability to compete. He attributes his success to his ability to listen to patients, tailor treatments to their needs, and clearly explain the benefits of his approach. In the coming years, he plans to continue his clinical work and is considering pursuing an orthopedic clinical specialization, while also remaining open to leadership roles and mentoring younger therapists.
