Subsequently, she pursued her passion for therapy by completing a Master of Arts in marriage and family therapy from Syracuse University, a program accredited by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, graduating in 1979.
In 1982, Ms. Hartman Brenizer achieved clinical fellow status with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She also obtained licensure as a New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from the New York State Board of License Professions, a distinction she held from 2014 to 2023.
Ms. Hartman Brenizer’s professional journey commenced in 1979 when she began her practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist. Throughout her career, she has provided therapy services to numerous social service agencies, offering her expertise to individuals and families in need. Her commitment to excellence led her to assume leadership roles, including serving as the director of the employee assistance program for Hospice in Central New York and contributing her skills to organizations such as Child Family Service in Onondaga County and the Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Hartman Brenizer has been an active consultant since 2002, providing valuable insights and guidance in her field.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Hartman Brenizer is deeply involved in her community and various professional associations. She has volunteered her time as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and served on the Advisory Council of the Mental Health Association of Onondaga County. She is also a dedicated member of the Guidance and Counseling Advisory Council for The Fayetteville Manlius School Board.
Ms. Hartman Brenizer’s contributions extend to creative endeavors, including her authorship of the “Shrink Rap” column from 2007 to 2014 and her publications in esteemed outlets such as the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and Syracuse Parent magazine. In recognition of her achievements, Ms. Hartman Brenizer has received several accolades, including being named a clinical fellow by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011 and earning a certificate honoring outstanding contribution from the Local Chapter of the Central New York Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in 1996. She graduated at the top of her class from the Syracuse University master’s degree in marriage and family therapy program in 1979.
