Maria Gatto, palliative care consultant at the Catholic Health Association, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in palliative care.

With 37 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Gatto has excelled as a palliative care consultant with the Catholic Health Association since 2023. She began her career as a staff nurse in the neurological and AIDS unit at the Columbia Presbyterian University Hospital. She worked as a charge nurse at Parkway Manor and as a corporate office QA & UR compliance director at Primecare, IPA, before transitioning to the role of therapeutic acupressure instructor at IGM Therapeutic Acupressure from 2000 to 2015.

Ms. Gatto continued her career as a visiting home health and staff nurse for the Hospice program at Valley Home Health Care, Inc. from 2001 to 2004. She was active as a research member and nursing interventionist at the New York University Division of Nursing from 2002 to 2005. She was further associated with Bon Secours Health System, Inc. and Trinity Health as a health system director of palliative care between 2006 and 2020.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Gatto pursued an education at the William Paterson University of New Jersey, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1987. She continued her academic efforts at New York University, obtaining a Master of Arts in arts and history and completing her licensure as an advanced practice registered nurse, with specializations in palliative care in 2003 and holistic nursing in 2004. She concluded her studies at the Institute of Metaphysical Humanistic Science, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in metaphysical humanistic science, cum laude, in 2021. She is pursuing coursework towards a PhD in metaphysical organizational leadership.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Gatto has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She found success as the author of “PeaceHealth Navigates New Path for Palliative Care” and co-author of articles posted in the Journal of Palliative Medicine, the Oxford University Press, Ross Pharmaceuticals, and many others. She held the role of nurse responder for National Nurses United and the Registered Nurse Response Network. Notably, she was the first nurse responder at Ground Zero on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Gatto has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was presented with multiple awards from Trinity Health System, the Immaculate Heart Academy, New York University, and the New Jersey Health Research and Educational Trust. She received an honorable mention from the New Jersey Project for Women at William Paterson University and was recognized as an outstanding nursing master’s student at New York University, among several other honors.
