Ryan Tom, lead medical technologist at Garnet Health Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in laboratory science.
With several years of experience to his credit, Mr. Tom has excelled as lead medical technologist at Garnet Health Medical Center since 2022. He began his career in didactics and clinical rotation at the Jersey Shore Medical Center before transitioning to the role of researcher and lab technician at Nitto Denko Corporation. Since 2019, he has established himself as a medical laboratory scientist at Monmouth Medical Center.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Tom pursued an education at The Pennsylvania State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 2012. He continued his studies at Kean University, completing coursework in medical laboratory science in 2018. He intends to conclude his academic efforts at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey at which he graduated with a Master of Science in clinical laboratory science in 2022, and is scheduled to graduate with a doctorate in clinical laboratory science in 2027.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Tom has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He found success with the research project he co-authored with fellow laboratory science students. He contributed to the Diversity Advocacy Group at the Salisbury-Elk Lick School District and was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Tom remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Society for Microbiology and sat as de facto chair and vice chair of the Diversity Advocacy Group of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was nominated for a National Youth Leadership for High School Students Award in 2007 and named to the Dean’s List at The Pennsylvania State University in 2008.
Mr. Tom attributes his success to his parents, receiving great guidance from his directors and teachers, working with students to advance his profession, and surrounding himself with positive people. In the immediate future, he intends to obtain a doctorate degree in clinical laboratory science and get more people into the medical laboratory science degree program. He eventually hopes to transition into academia and share the knowledge he has gained in the medical field with the next generation.
